Day 2: Murchison Falls National Park

Friday 12th March, 2021

DAY 2: ROAD TRIP  MURCHISON FALLS N. P VIA ZIWA RHINO SANCTUARY

Journey time: 5–6 hrs

Depart Kampala very early for Murchison Falls National Park:

  • En-route to Masindi 3 hours’ drive out of Kampala, make  a stop at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to track Rhinos before proceeding to the National Park.

Upon entrance to the Park, you will have an evening game drive as you head to your lodge.

Expect a wide variety of wildlife including; Lions, hippos, waterbucks, leopards, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hyenas, oribis, Uganda Kobs, baboons and patas monkeys and many more.

On arival check in, freshen up, dinner & Overnight.

 

Expert tips

The River Nile  and it's banks flooded due to  excessive rains washing away the ferry docking. Journey times may be longer due to  using alternative  route by road.

Day 3: Murchison Falls National Park

Saturday 13th March, 2021

DAY 3: GAME DRIVE AND LAUNCH CRUISE ON THE NILE

After an early breakfast, you will have a game drive through the delta circuit, reputably known for high concentrations of wildlife. This 2-3 hour game drive will reward you with stunning views of the savanna and other plant vegetation of the acacia and borassus palm trees propagated by elephants all the way from Congo.

Expect a wide variety of wildlife including; Lions, hippos, waterbucks, leopards, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hyenas, oribis, Uganda Kobs, baboons and patas monkeys and many more. Take a stop at the Nile Delta where you will view Hippos cooling off in the water, and have some photos around the bank. Later on, drive back to the lodge and enjoy your lunch.

At about 10:30 am, cross the Nile by boat  andhead to the Top of the Falls. (The driving distance is about 1 hour each way)

The view is rewarding as it explains why Murchison Falls is famously known as one of the world’s strongest waterfalls. And soon after experiencing the perfect scenery, proceed to the ferry dock and crossover to access your lodge so as check in and enjoy your leisure.

 

Thereafter, next is an afternoon launch cruise on the Nile; offering you a chance to experience a variety of wildlife as you enjoy the stunning views along the world’s longest river. In addition to taking you close to the base of the waterfall, the 3 hour launch trip follows a stretch of the Nile with a compelling African atmosphere. Game viewing is excellent where you will expect;

  • Hippos in their hundreds
  • The Nile crocodiles
  • Small herds of buffalo, waterbuck, and kob
  • Elephants

The birdlife on the banks is so captivating and the birds to be seen include the African fish Eagle, Goliath heron, saddle-billed stork, African Jacana, Pied and malachite kingfishers, African skimmer, Piacpiac, rock pratincole kingfishers, bee-eaters and many more. After the launch cruise, return to your lodge and stay at leisure with dinner in progress.

Day 4: Ndali Kasenda Crater Lakes

DAY4: MURCHISON FALLS TO KIBALE NATIONAL PARK

Journey time: 6 - 7 hrs

Early in the morning, after your breakfast, you will depart for Kibale National Park with your lunch stopover (optional) in Hoima.

Kibale National Park contains one of the loveliest and most varied tracts of the tropical rain forest in Uganda. Forest cover, interspersed with patches of grassland and swamp, dominates the northern and central parts of the park on an elevated plateau. Upon your arrival you will drive straight to your Lodge and recuperate from the long journey.

Day 5: Southern Queen Elizabeth National Park

Monday 15th March, 2021

DAY 5: CHIMP TRACKING & TRANSFER TO QUEEN ELIZABETH

Another early breakfast today thenhead out to chimp tracking.

At 795 sq.km Kibale National Park is home to over 351 tree species some over 200 years old, famous for 13 primate species including Chimpanzees, 70 mammals species & over 375 bird species. In the morning, start of the day with breakfast and get ready for the day’s exciting activities.

Chimp tracking is combined with an all green forest walk  where you see various bird species (great blue turaco), & more primates like the black & white colobus monkey, you will also view more animals to include bushbucks & mongoose. 

Take a lunch break and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Journey time: 2-3 hrs

Queen Elizabeth National Park is famous for diverse ecosystems which include sprawling Savannah, shady humid forests, sparkling lakes, wetlands and amazing craters. Ideal for big game, primate species to include Chimps and over 600 bird species. It has superb scenic views of Kazinga Channel, the Rwenzori Mountains and crater lakes which are home to a wide variety of birds.

On arrival, chek in to your lodge and spend the rest of the  evening at leisure.

Day 6: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Tuesday 16th March, 2021

 

DAY 6: GAME DRIVE & TRANSFER  TO BWINDI IMPENETRABLE  NATIONAL PARK

Journey time: 4 - 5 hrs

After an early breakfast, start off your day with exploring the flora and fauna of this amazing national park. Expect to see a variety of animals & birds:

  • 604 species of birds like the African fish eagle, yellow billed stork among others.
  • Primates
  • Cats like lions, Leopard, Cerval etc.
  • Candid like side stripped jackal
  • Civets, Genet and mongooses.
  • Elephants, buffalos, hippos

As you wind up with the game drive proceed to Lake Katwe; this lake is far too salty to support aquatic life, though since the 16th Century it has ensured the survival of locals, who spend most of their days extracting salt from its milky waters. Explore the tough & fascinating process of local salt mining.

Return to the lodge for an early lunch and  transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park through the Southerly Ishasha Sector. On arrival, check into your lodge and recuperate from the journey.

Encounter the Tree climbing lions; this is the most captivating experience in Ishasha, thus its popularity in the entire national park. Tree climbing lions that reside up in the acacia and fig trees are spotted each and every time hanging up in the trees, as they try avoid tsetse fly and other ground insects’ bites, and they usually enjoy their prey high up in the trees.

In addition to the tree climbing lions other animals are seen here including; elephants, buffalos, antelopes, Uganda Kob, impalas, waterbucks, warthogs, and elands among others. So spend enough time here for a wonderful experience.

Arrival in Bwindi is expected in the evening.

Day 7: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

17th March, 2021

DAY 7: GORILLA TRACKING DAY WITH OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES

After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for briefing at exactly 8:00 am and tracking will commence in the next 30 min after registration and briefing by the ranger guides.

Gorilla tracking is a very captivating and unforgettable experience which more than repays the effort needed to reach Bwindi. This starts at 8:30 am and can last a few hours to a whole day depending on where the gorillas were left the previous day. After gorilla tracking, return to your lodge and have your lunch.

Option 1

 Community tour  where you will meet and interact with the shortest people (Batwa) of the mountains; learn about their way of life such as; hunting skills, medicinal knowledge, child upbringing, cuisines, art and crafts and many more interesting aspects.

Option 2

Muyanga Waterfall Walk departs from Buhoma along the River Ivi-Nkuringo trail and culminates in the sensational sight of the falls plummeting 33 meters. The trail goes through Uganda's most prestine tracts of rain forest tree ferns and orchids  to visit 3 sparkling crystal clear water falls.

Day 8: Kampala

DAY 8: DEPART BWINDI VIA KAMPALA TO ENTEBBE.

Journey time: 8 - 9 Hours

After an early breakfast, depart Bwindi by road  to either Kampala or Entebbe.

You will stop over at the Equator for demonstrations and  a photo opportunity
