Pause for a leisurely lunch at the restaurant of your choice (paid directly), before heading to the district of Barranco. With its layered history, colourful facades and creative pulse, Barranco is a favourite among Lima’s artists, writers, and musicians. Here, time slows down and every corner feels like an open invitation to explore.

Day 3: Chachapoyas

Chachapoyas, Huancas & Sonche Canyon

Upon arrival, a gentle introduction to Chachapoyas begins with sweeping views over Sonche Canyon, revealing the region’s dramatic geography. The journey continues to Huancas, a longstanding ceramic village where local artisan Consuelo Detquizan shares her craft and heritage. By afternoon, arrival at Gocta Natura Reserve invites a moment of rest within its forested surroundings. As the day softens, a visit to a nearby refuge offers the chance to observe the elusive spatula-tail hummingbird, found only in this corner of northern Peru.

Day 4: Chachapoyas

Kuelap and Macro in route to Leymebamba

Set high above the Utcubamba Valley, Kuélap reveals a vast stone citadel shaped by over 300 circular structures and encircled by towering limestone walls. The journey continues to Macro, where cliffside remains blend quietly into the mountain’s edge. In Leymebamba, the narrative deepens within a museum safeguarding more than 200 mummies recovered from Laguna de los Cóndores. A private conversation with Dr. Sonia Guillén, the museum’s founding director and one of the researchers behind the discovery of the site, offers rare insight into this enduring legacy.

Day 5: Chachapoyas

Gocta Waterfall Trek

Hidden deep within the Amazonas cloud forest, Gocta cascades over 770 metres, ranking among the tallest waterfalls in the world. The trail winds through dense, mist laden vegetation alive with hummingbirds and orchids, revealing the falls only at the final approach. The descent into the canyon offers a rare vantage point, where the full scale of the falls comes into view, framed by sheer cliffs on every side.

Day 6: Huaraz

Spend the morning at leisure, unwinding at your hotel or exploring the landscapes around Chachapoyas, before continuing onward to Huaraz, either by private flight or by commercial connection with a brief stop in Lima.

Laguna Paron

Set deep within the Cordillera Blanca, Laguna Parón reveals a striking expanse of turquoise framed by snow-capped peaks. Reached by a scenic drive, the experience unfolds gently, without demanding exertion. Time at the lake is unhurried, with the option for short walks or simply taking in the stillness. Surrounded by some of the highest mountains in Peru, this moment offers a quiet connection to the clarity and scale of the Andes.

Laguna Rocotuyoc & Laguna Congelada

Travelling north of Huaraz, the route enters Huascarán National Park through the highland community of Vicos. A brief stop at Paqcharuri reveals glacial waterfalls and nearby rock art set within the landscape. At Laguna Rocotuyoc, open views stretch across a quiet Andean valley framed by distant peaks. From here, a gentle and mostly level walk leads to Laguna Congelada, where floating ice gathers at the edge of the glacier, offering a rare and close-up perspective of this high-altitude environment.
