Day 1: Lilongwe

Arrive at Lilongwe International Airport and meet your driver for transfer by road to Kumbali Country Lodge, located on Capital Hill Dairy Farm.

Kumbali Country Lodge is owned by Guy and Maureen Pickering and situated on a 650ha working farm; the lodge is an exclusive and private lodge with conference centre, only 10 minutes from Lilongwe City Centre and 25 minutes from the International airport.

The naturally forested estate is wonderful for walks, jogging, bird watching and nature appreciation. Farming activities include maize and dairy with an emphasis on community development together with Nature’s Gift Perma-culture Centre. The Kumbali Cultural Village displays traditional Malawian Arts including dance, music, and crafts.

Days 2 - 3: Zomba

Today, transfer by road to the Zomba Plateau and your accommodation at Sunbird Ku Chawe Inn.

Zomba Plateau is unique. A great slab of a mountain rising to 6000ft (1800m) – the plateau top crisscrossed by streams with tumbling waterfalls and still lakes. There are drivable tracks right round the top from which there are breathtaking views. Whether walking or driving, there is always something to see.

Situated high above Zomba, the historic old colonial capital of Malawi, Sunbird Ku Chawe sits on the rim of Zomba plateau and shares its views over Africa with a huge biodiversity of birds and animals. The recently completed dam, with fishing, sailing and water-surfing facilities on offer has brought further species and new attractions.

Days 4 - 6: Liwonde National Park

Transfer by road to Liwonde National Park and Mvuu Lodge.

The 580 sq km (220 sq miles) Liwonde National Park is Malawi’s prime wildlife area. The reserve encompasses the wide and scenic Shire River, as well as quiet backwaters and lagoons, marshes, open savanna and floodplain, mopane woodland and hills - habitats which support an incredible diversity of plants, animals and birdlife.

Mvuu Lodge offers boat trips and games drives both during the day and at night. Boat trips are the highlight and offer the best way to seeing the park’s elephants as well as the huge crocodiles and the night birds. Walks with qualified scouts are also offered.

Days 7 - 9: Mumbo Island

Road Transfer to the Base Camp in Cape Maclear, followed by a boat transfer to Mumbo Island in Lake Malawi National Park.

Mumbo Island is located within an exclusive concession area, guaranteeing privacy in tropical island paradise. The camp is constructed entirely of timber, thatch and canvas, and adheres to the strictest principles of eco-architecture. Five large safari tents are fully furnished, each with its own shady view-deck and private hammock. Other infrastructure is limited to a dining area, bar and water sport gazebo.

Mumbo Island is an exclusive camp on a pristine and otherwise-deserted island offering barefoot luxury and tranquility. Excellent sea kayaking, snorkeling and SCUBA facilities enable the active guest to interact with an impressive piece of nature: granitic islands in a fresh-water Rift Valley lake; Fish Eagles abundant as naturally possible; and a Cichlid fish population of comparable importance to the Galapagos finches in the study of evolution.

Day 10: End of Itinerary

Bid farewell to Mumbo Island as you are transferred by boat back to the mainland. Then it’s onward by road to Lilongwe International Airport for your departure flights home.
