Day 1: San Jose

Upon arrival in Costa Rica once passing migrations, baggage claim and customs, you will get to the arrival exit where you will meet and greet with our representative (holding a sign bearing your name).

Our guide will check with you your travel details, in case there is any doubt and will provide you with transportation to your hotel. The drive from the airport to the hotel takes 25 minutes approximately.

 

Day 2: Tortuguero National Park

Private transportation to La Pavona / Caño Blanco dock. Transfer time and distance: 3 hours / 135 km approximately.

Private boat transfer to Tortuguero. Enjoy a refreshing cocktail and a delicious lunch when you arrive to the hotel.

After lunch, private guided visit to Tortuguero picturesque town and to the Sea Turtle Information Center (formerly known as the Caribbean Conservation Corporation).  

For safety reasons and space limitations on the boats, luggage per person is restricted to a single suitcase of up to 25 pounds (12 Kg) and a carry-on bag.

To witness green sea and hawksbill turtles nesting, visit from July through October (August is considered peak nesting month).

Day 3: Tortuguero National Park

After breakfast, explore Tortuguero National Park.  Depending on weather conditions, we will explore the canals in small, open boats to allow better visibility and even a closer look to the flora and fauna, or we will take a hiking tour to the park.

Tortuguero is a network of navigable lakes, rivers and canals (both natural and man-made) that are used for transportation and are a great place for observing local wildlife. The climate is warm and humid. Daily temperatures average 26 degrees C (79 F) and annual average rainfall is over 5,000 mm (200+ inches). Warm days are tempered by trade winds and cool nights.

Abundant wildlife inhabits Tortuguero, including 57 species of amphibians, 111 species of reptiles, and 60 species of mammals. More than 300 species of birds live in Tortuguero for all or part of the year. Birdwatchers commonly see keel-billed toucans, slaty tailed trogons, Montezuma oropendulas and a variety of parrots. Birds common along the canals include green and great blue herons, egrets, belted kingfishers, anhingas, jacanas, sun grebes and several species of hawks and kites.

Day 4: La Fortuna

Private rafting tour Balsa River (Class II&III)

The half day adventure at Balsa River provides action and thrills for almost all family members, including children from 8 years old. It is a class II-III rapids river in Arenal area.

You will get a briefing explanation of the safety equipment and procedures, then you will embark on your journey down the rapids during two hours approximately. During the activity you will see some monkeys, sloths, toucans, among other species; additionally, you can enjoy a swim, tropical fruits and cold drinks during your break from the action.

At the end of the tour you will enjoy a typical lunch.

Day 6: La Fortuna

Private Mountain Biking at Arenal Volcano Lake Trail

Costa Rica has incredible natural characteristics and the tranquility of the countryside is ideal for mountain biking. We will travel along paths that cross the farmland, near the jungle and along the base of the mountains and hills. This private bike tour to the Arenal volcano by bicycle will help you, with the help of your guide, to explore the diverse natural environment of Costa Rica. When touring Lake Arenal at the base of the volcano, you will travel through the rainforest, rural farmland and wildlife. You will also have the opportunity to see different types of monkeys, coatis, toucans and much more fauna. We will make a stop along the way to enjoy a good snack while we cool off in a river or at Lake Arenal. We will ride a ballast road that connects Lake Arenal with the Arenal Volcano National Park that extends 8.3 miles each way. While you travel to the Caño Negro River, in the small town of El Castillo, you will be surrounded by lush rainforest. You will be surprised by the kindness of Costa Rican peasants who are always willing to smile at you and give you an affectionate greeting as you go through the beautiful landscape. Then, you will return to your hotel with unforgettable memories of this fun adventure in Arenal.

Day 8: Manuel Antonio

Private Manuel Antonio National Park half-day tour.

This national park is one of the most famous in the country thanks to its wide variety of flora and fauna specimens, it is home to three of the four species of monkeys that exist in Costa Rica. The park has three different trails with different degree of difficulty, from flat to very steep. The path we take is flat and easily accessible and of about 3 km. Along this private tour we will be escorted by a naturalist guide who knows the area well, and who will explain the different animals and plants that can be seen on this tour. Upon reaching the third beach, we will take a 20-minute break to rest, sunbathe or take a dip in the ocean. During the tour you can see sloths, birds and reptiles, as well as admire the orchids, the butterflies and the tropical trees. The guide carries Pentax and Swarovski telescopes for better wildlife viewing or taking pictures from a different perspective. At the end of the tour, transportation will be provided back to the hotel.

Departure: 7:30 am and 12:30 pm.

Duration: 3 ½ hours.
