Nambiti Game Reserve

Nambiti Private Game Reserve is set in KwaZulu-Natal on 23 000 magnificent acres near the town of Ladysmith, conveniently close to Johannesburg/Pretoria and Durban. Nambiti is also close to the renowned KwaZulu-Natal battlefields, a major attraction of this region. One of its major drawcards is that Nambiti is situated in a malaria-free area, meaning that guests don’t have to take medication before visiting. This reserve boasts the attractions of the Big 5, the only one in the area to do so, and Nambiti’s biodiversity (it encompasses grasslands, riverine bush, savannah, and thornveld) ensures a thrilling and unprecedented diversity of game (there are 40 other game species besides the big 5) and is a birders paradise.

KosiBay, KwaZulu-Natal

Kosi Bay lies on the coast in the top northeast corner of KwaZulu-Natal and forms part of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park World Heritage Site. The Mozambique border forms the northern boundary of the protected area and the Indian Ocean the eastern boundary. The Kosi Bay system consists of four lakes connected by a series of meandering channels with fringing wetlands and is one of the most fascinating and beautiful pristine lake systems on the African coast. The Kosi system is home to a large variety of birds and animals including hippo and crocodile. Humpback whales are seasonal offshore visitors, as are leatherback and loggerhead sea turtles that come ashore to nest on the beaches from November to January. The 11 000 ha Kosi Bay Nature Reserve is a wonderland of clear blue sea, wetlands and lakes. It has the rare Raffia Palm and its concomitant Palmnut Vulture, wild date palms, mangrove swamps, and sycamore fig forests all combining to form a home for over 250 species of birds, as well as bushbuck, duiker, and monkeys.
