Days 1 - 4: Barra Beach

Located on popular Barra Beach near Inhambane (24 km) in Mozambique, with spectacular views of pristine beaches and the crystal clear turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. The ancient Portuguese name for Inhambane (Terra de Boa Gente) translates to Land of Good People, and that is true to this day. Barra Beach Club offers accommodation that mostly suits someone looking for a neat and comfortable hotel, yet be close and convenient to the simplicity Mozambique has to offer. With wide, white, walkable beaches on the one side of the peninsula, and the Inhambane estuary on the other side, there is always a area to relax. The lodge is nestled amongst groves of coconut trees with the warm Indian Ocean offering safe bathing all year round.

Access to Barra Beach: One can fly directly from O.R.Tambo Airport in Johannesburg to Inhambane airport, or drive the 485km stretch of tarred road from Maputo. Once in the ancient, historical town of Inhambane, it is only a 30 minute transfer or drive to Barra Beach. This scenic drive winds through local villages and groves of tropical coconut trees.

Accommodation: Eight elegantly decorated en suite rooms with a glimpse of the sunrise channel and the magnificent view of the sun setting over the nearby mangroves. Rooms are all airconditioned with free wifi, tea/coffee facilities, DSTV, as well as an in-room safe. Mosquito nets are large and cover the beds adequately. Quality linen is used and beach towels are provided.

Activities: Barra Beach is the perfect place to sit back and relax, take in the fresh sea air, and set your soul at ease. For those that are however looking for some something to do, there are plentiful activities at the lodge (at an extra charge), such as:

Kayaking: Kayaks are available at Barra, with or without a guide to explore the mangroves and experience the rich estuary wildlife.

Snorkelling: Available in the sea or Inhambane lagoon.

Surfboards, Stand up paddle boards and kite surfing equipment is available for hire. For those that have not done these activities before, an experienced instructor is available.

Horse Riding: Enjoy a ride on one of our beautiful and majestic horses. Sunset horse-ride on the beach is an experience one will never forget.

Diving: The Barra Dive Centre has closed and guests can utilize one of the following dive centres i.e. Barra Reef Dive centre and Tofo Scuba. Transfers can be arranged with Flamingo Bay Lodge.

Ocean Safaris: We go out to deeper waters to locate whale shark, dolphins, whale, turtles and any other amazing marine life we come across. Guaranteed fun, weather permitting, we can allow you some surface time too.
