Days 1 - 3: South Luangwa National Park

Your safari will start with a scheduled flight from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport to Mfuwe Airport, where you will be picked up and transferred to Tafika Main Camp, your base for the first three nights.

Set on the east bank of the Luangwa River, north of the Nsefu Sector, Tafika Main Camp blends serene bush surroundings with thrilling wildlife encounters. Six spacious chalets, built around magnificent sausage and leadwood trees, offer en suite comfort. A private hide overlooking the camp waterhole is also available for guests to enjoy.

Days here are filled with guided game drives, walking safaris, mountain bike safaris, and cultural visits to Mkasanga Village. The camp’s two hides provide excellent in-camp viewing, where you may see elephants, puku, bushbuck, and a variety of birds gather. The Nsefu sector is renowned for its leopards, giving guests a high chance of spotting these elusive predators.

Mornings begin with breakfast by the Luangwa River, followed by safaris and a buffet lunch. Afternoons allow time to relax in camp or visit the hides. Evening drives finish with sundowners and spotlighting nocturnal wildlife, before a three-course dinner under the stars. Nights are spent lulled to sleep by the sounds of the African bush.

Days 4 - 5: South Luangwa National Park

After breakfast, you’ll take a short drive to the riverbank and cross by canoe before setting out on a scenic walking safari through the bush from Tafika to Big Lagoon your home for the next two nights. With porters on hand to carry luggage, you can fully immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the wilderness along the way.

Big Lagoon Walking Camp is tucked on the west bank of South Luangwa National Park, overlooking a tranquil lagoon framed by ebony forest. Accessible only on foot, the camp offers an intimate bush experience, where every day is dedicated to guided walking safaris and the wildlife comes to you. Elephants, giraffe, eland, wild dogs, hippos, and crocodiles often frequent the lagoon, making in-camp game viewing a highlight alongside guided walking safaris.

During your stay, mornings begin with a four-hour walking safari, pausing for tea and insights into the bush, while afternoons feature shorter walks starting after tea and returning before dusk. Between walks, relax in hammocks, review wildlife sightings, or enjoy in-camp viewing of the lagoon, which attracts elephants, eland, giraffe, wild dog, hippos, and crocodiles.

Pre-dinner sundowners around the campfire lead into a three-course meal by candlelight, and nights are spent under cotton sheets and mosquito nets, lulled to sleep by the sounds of lions and hyenas.

Days 6 - 7: South Luangwa National Park

Your day will begin with a walking safari through the bush, providing a true sense of remoteness and anticipation for your next walking camp, Chikoko Tree Walking Camp, where you will spend your last two-nights.

Chikoko Tree Walking Camp, part of the exclusive Chikoko Trails, is located 8km upstream from Tafika Main Camp in South Luangwa National Park, offering a rare, elevated perspective on South Luangwa’s wildlife. With just three raised chalets overlooking an open area that wildlife freely traverses, the camp gives a sense of being part of the bush itself. Accessible only on foot, guests enjoy walking safaris along elephant and hippo trails, guided by experienced rangers, armed scouts, and a tea-bearer.

Over the next two days, you can expect mornings to start with a longer walk, pausing for tea and insights into the bush, while shorter afternoon walks return before dusk. Between walks, you can relax in hammocks and enjoy in-camp viewing.

Evenings feature sundowners around the fire, a three-course candlelit dinner, and nights under cotton sheets and mosquito nets, lulled to sleep by the sounds of lions and hyenas. Chikoko Tree Camp offers a rare, unforgettable opportunity to experience the remotest Africa on foot.
