Day 1

Gonarezhou National Park

Day notes

Typical routes to get to Gonarezhou would have you arriving at Chipinda Pools the main Headquarters and entry point to the park. From here it is about a 2 hour game drive through to our private mobile tented camp site right on the banks of the Runde River in view of the Chilojo Cliffs.

Your tent here is a large walk in safari tent which we use for our safaris around Gonarezhou (Not the same camp as you see in the pictures but very similar ) - we set these camps up for each booking so we have minimal impact on the area and we keep things as simple and practical as possible  but still giving you a comfortable stay in the middle of a beautiful and prime wildlife area of Gonarezhou. Each tent has two single stretcher type beds with extra mattress and proper linen, to keep you comfortable at night. The tent also has bright solar lighting and a veranda area out the front where you can sit and relax during safari down time.  Attached to the back of the tent is your bathroom area, this is a canvas surround to give you privacy.

On one side is a shower area where we have a suspended  bucket shower with pre-  heated water. The toilet is a dry toilet system which is perfect for mobile camping and has a very minimal impact on our environment as opposed to chemical based toilet systems. Its all clean and neat and wont be unfamiliar to you.

Day 2 - 3

Gonarezhou National Park

Day notes

Your safari day in general would start with an early morning wake up , when the camp team bring some warm water to your tent so you can refresh yourself and get ready for the day ahead. We then have breakfast around the campfire at first light of the day. This is generally a cold breakfast but with lots of hot tea and coffee to help get you going in the morning.

We would then set off and each day has no set agenda this is based around your interests, what sounds we may have heard during the night, or areas we may want to go and explore. So sometimes we head off on foot and other days we may leave by vehicle. It is all very flexible and who knows how each day will unfold. The safari vehicles are customized Toyota Land Cruisers with bench seating so you can be very flexible on how you sit and move about during the safari experience and lots of space for any equipment that you have with you.

Late morning we would either start moving back to camp or we may set up for a picnic  lunch in a nice area with a view over the river or waterhole which is a great way to make the most of your safari time during the heat of the day.

The afternoon session would really be based mostly on what we have seen during the morning or going into a new area to try and maximize our sighting potential. We would return to camp at sunset for a hot shower and cold drink around the fire before having dinner and a well earned rest.

Day 4

Gonarezhou National Park

Day notes

Today we move further East in the park downstream along the Runde River, the site we choose will depend on availability but will be in a a place that gives us a great view of the river and give us easy access to the beautiful natural pans that have been formed in this area at the junction of the two major rivers in this area - The Save and Runde Rivers. The team would have gone ahead to set up camp so we will take with us a packed lunch so we can enjoy our day out while the camp is prepared and we will arrive later in the afternoon ready for a nice hot shower.

Day 5

Gonarezhou National Park

Day notes

When we are out fly camping there are no en suite facilities for your tent however there will be a toilet facility set up nearby and a shared shower system - the shower will be much the same as you had at Chipale with pre - heated water and a small pump to make it all seem like a normal shower, only out in the bush behind a screen but with stars right above you.

Dining will be around the campfire with a continuation of the African themed meals, its just as safari should be simple but comfortable and relaxing.

Day 6

Gonarezhou National Park

Day notes

Today we will move back up to the North - Western side of the park and away from the Runde River. The Massasanya Camp overlooks the small dam here which is right in the heart of a usually quite dry area apart from a few small springs so this dam is a real focal point for the animals during the day.  We will game drive all the way here and again go with a small packed lunch so we have no time pressure and just enjoy our day out.

Day 7

Gonarezhou National Park

Day notes

This camp being right on the edge of the dam gives you excellent game viewing 24/7 so we often spend our day here by starting off with a walk around the hills and valleys in this open and beautiful walking area, in the heart of the black rhino relocation zone, so we may even be able to track one of these very rare and special animals. We would then return to camp late morning for a nice lunch and then depending on what everyones energy levels are like we may go out for a game drive, walk or just find a nice spot and watch the coming and going of the animals at this beautiful dam.

Day 8

End of Itinerary

Day notes

Today we will transfer back to Chipinda Pools as a last game drive out of the park, these arrangements will all be worked out with whatever transfer arrangements we have made for your next destination.
