Day 1: Blantyre

Arrive in Blantyre where you will be met by our local representative with your vehicle. They will drop you off at Leslie Lodge and do the car handover there (allow about an hour for this). You will stay at Leslie Lodge for 1 night on dinner, bed & breakfast basis. 

Leslie Lodgeis a beautiful, homely lodge run by Ray and Lynne Finch who have lived in Blantyre for 37 years. The lodge is situated in the quiet suburb of Mount Pleasant, a short distance from the town centre and is an ideal base for time spent in and around Blantyre.

Day 2: Majete Wildlife Reserve

The following morning you will drive to Majete Game Reserve (about a 2.5 hour drive) where you will stay at Thawale Lodge for 3 nights in a luxury tented chalet on full board & activities basis. Arrive in time for the afternoon game drive. 

Thawale Lodge is situated within Majete around a serene floodlit waterhole that attracts a variety of wildlife.  Completely unfenced, the camp is regularly visited by wildlife.  Thawale Lodge offers six double and twin tented chalets all en-suite and each with its own private veranda overlooking the waterhole.  The more luxurious chalet has a unique open air bathroom built among the rocks with a shower and a sunken bath and views of the floodlit waterhole. The chalets are spaced out to offer visitors privacy and an individual bush experience. A communal lapa (traditional lounge area) with a fully staffed kitchen is available in the center of the Lodge. Fresh meals are served in the beautiful thatched bamboo restaurant and bar and there is a birding veranda looking out over the combretum forest and waterhole. Thawale is fully electrified.  Thawale Camp accommodates a maximum of 12 guests in en suite tented chalets. One boasts a unique open air bathroom with sunken bath, set among the rocks. The generous spacing ensures privacy and each tent has a front deck from which you can watch a waterhole where animals drink. Guests can enjoy their meals in the fully catered restaurant and they can enjoy a wide range of activities including game drives, elephant tracking, and bush walks. Visits can be made to local villages and to see community projects and local dancers.

Day 5: Thyolo

After your morning activity and breakfast you will depart for Thyolo (about a 3 hour drive) where you will stay at Game Haven Lodge for 2 nights on dinner, bed & breakfast basis in a luxury cottage. You can visit the nearby tea estates in Thyolo and take part in a tea tasting workshop (to be arranged directly at Satemwa Tea Estates). Lunch at Huntingdon House is also highly recommended! 

Game Havenis a serene, beautiful game park and lodge is set in the indigenous forests and grasslands of the Shire highlands of Southern Malawi. Experience exceptional viewing of the wildlife which include kudu, roan, eland, sable, giraffe, zebra, and a prolific birdlife. Enjoy in this tranquil setting our 5 private cottages with a fireplace that warms the spacious lounge and leads onto the verandah with exceptional views. There is also a choice of 20 rustic ensuite rooms.  As part of the unique Game Haven experience, enjoy the internationally designed Matkovich & Hayes 9 hole golf course, beautiful but challenging; The relaxing sound of the cascading waterfall at the swimming pool and fishing and braaing on the scenic lawns of Lake Bvumbwe. As the sun sets, enjoy a drink in the Victorian styled bar followed by exceptional international cuisine at our Ambrosia restaurant.

Day 6: Thyolo

Day of exploring the tea estates. All meals included.

Day 7: Liwonde National Park

After breakfast you will depart for Liwonde National Park (about a 3.5 hour drive) where you will stay at Mvuu Camp for 3 nights on full board & activities included. Arrive in time for the afternoon game viewing activity. 

Mvuu Camp is sited on the banks of the Shire river and has spacious 7 X twin and 5 X family chalets for a maximum of 34 guests. There’s a restaurant, a camping site, children’s playground and large swimming pool. Game viewing is available in safari 4x4 vehicles, on foot or a boat safari. The river safaris are a wonderful way of viewing the exceptionally large schools of hippo that live in the Shire and of seeing the great herds of elephant which come to drink and bathe. The unspoilt nature on Liwonde National Park is one of its great attractions.  There is a great range of wildlife to see including rare black rhino and some really large crocodiles in the river. For birdwatchers, Liwonde is a ‘must visit’ game park. Over 400 species have been recorded.

Days 8 - 9: Liwonde National Park

2 game viewing activities. All meals included.

Day 10: Cape Maclear

After your morning activity and breakfast drive to Cape Maclear (about a 3 hour drive) where you will stay at Chembe Eagle's Nest for 2 nights on dinner, bed & breakfast basis. 

Chembe Eagles Nestoffers 6 double and 5 twin chalets – all en suite with Mosquito nets and ceiling fans as standard in all rooms. chalets are lake facing with a patio to watch the exquisite sunset from your patio. We guarantee the most relaxing experience in Cape Maclear.

Day 11: Cape Maclear

Day of leisure (activities can be arranged directly at the lodge - Catamaran sunset cruise (4pm - 6pm) - $15pp / Half day cruise - $25pp / Full day cruise - $45pp light lunch incl). Breakfast & Dinner included.

Day 12: Mumbo Island

After breakfast you will drive to the Kayak Africa boat transfer point to catch your boat to Mumbo Island (10.30am) where you will stay for 2 nights on full board basis (non motorised activities included). 

Mumbo Islandis an upmarket and exclusive eco-lodge on a deserted island. The undisputed jewel of the Lake Malawi, lying 10km offshore of Cape Maclear. 5 double/twin chalets and 1 four-bed family chalet - 14 Beds in total with stunning good looks and with the whole island falls inside an exclusive concession area. A tiny camp is tucked away on the rocks and beach at the head of a deep and serene bay. It offers tastefully furnished safari tents with shaded decks, hammocks, en suite hot bucket showers and ‘eco-loos’. Camp construction adheres to the strictest principles of eco-architecture and its operation has an almost zero ecological impact on the island. Freedom and quality island time - together with a good dose of healthy outdoor fun - is what visits to Mumbo Island are all about. An island chef produces three hearty meals a day, and guests are free to choose between activity, exploration and leisure. Highly recommended are pre-breakfast swims and snorkeling with the colourful cichlid tropical fish; and ending off with a sunset cruise around the island by boat or kayak. Day 13: Mumbo Island

Day of leisure and exploring the island. All meals included.

Day 14: Lilongwe

Get a boat transfer back to the mainland today and drive to Lilongwe (about a 3.5 hour drive) where you will stay at Africa House for 1 night on bed & breakfast basis. Our Local representative will meet you there in order to off hire the vehicle.
