9-Day Victoria Falls, Hwange & Matopos

Day 1: Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)

Arrive at Victoria Falls Airport where your Zimbabwean Safari experience begins. You will be met by our Imvelo shuttle vehicle for your road transfer to Gorges Lodge on the edge of the Batoka Gorge, 200 metres above the mighty Zambezi River (30 mins).

Spend the late afternoon sipping delicious refreshments by the pool enjoying the amazing view and then in the evening head off to Dibu Dibu for sundowners and snacks while you watch the lodge's resident pair of black eagles soar only metres away from you. 

After the black eagle viewing take a leisurely stroll back to the main lodge reception area where you will be entertained by our team of talented traditional dancers and then enjoy a tasty 3 course dinner in the main lodge area, overlooking the gorge before retiring to your chalet and falling asleep to the sound of the river rushing below you.

Day 2: Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)

Enjoy early morning tea or coffee on your private veranda overlooking the gorge followed by a sumptuous breakfast in the main lodge dining area then head to the nearby Chisuma Village for a village tour where you will able to see some of Imvelo’s community initiative projects and then head back to Gorges for a tasty lunch. 

In the afternoon you will road transfer into Victoria Falls town where you will be taken on a guided tour of Zimbabwe's foremost attraction - the 'Falls'. “The smoke that thunders” remains one of the most spectacular natural wonders in the world. This will be followed by curio shopping at the craft village.

After your curio shopping you will be taken to the river's edge where you will embark on your sunset cruise on the Zambezi River. Return to Gorges Lodge in the evening for a traditional Zimbabwean 'braai' out under the stars.

Day 3: Eastern Hwange National Park

Enjoy early morning tea or coffee and breakfast, Batoka Safaris will road transfer you to Victoria Falls town (approx. 30 mins) where you will be taken on a guided tour of  Zimbabwe’s foremost attraction –  ‘the Victoria Falls’.  “The smoke that thunders” remains one of the most spectacular natural wonders in the world.  

Embark on your road transfer to Dete Station (2hrs) where you will then board the Elephant Express rail car for a slow ride down the railway line game viewing all the way into camp. Packed snacks and refreshments will be served on board the Elephant Express to Ngamo Siding near Bomani Tented Lodge (approx. 2.5hrs).

Bomani Tented Lodge is situated on a private concession on the edge of the remote and unspoilt south eastern corner of Hwange National Park. Hwange is famed for its huge herds of elephants (they number upwards of 45,000 in the park!) but the Ngamo Plain attracts a variety of other plains game including wildebeest, buffalo, kudu, waterbuck and sable too. Predators are regularly spotted, especially lion, jackal and cheetah

After settling in to your room and freshening up, a tasty 3 course dinner will be served under the stars next to the lodge waterhole (weather permitting).  

After dinner a night drive will be on offer through the lodge's private concession.

Day 4: Eastern Hwange National Park

Early morning wake up with coffee or tea before departing in the game viewing vehicle into Hwange National Park to an area of acacia forests surrounding the Ngamo Plain where guests can leave the vehicle and be guided on foot by one of Imvelo’s fully licensed armed guides.

Return to Bomani for brunch and either a siesta or an hour or 2 relaxing by the pool, overlooking the waterhole.

Your afternoon game drive departs at approximately 15h00 and finishes up with sundowners around one of the famed waterholes in the area. 

Night drive back to the lodge for showers and refreshments around the campfire before your 3 course dinner in the main lodge area

Day 5: Eastern Hwange National Park

After breakfast head to Ngamo Village, for a very special morning that gives guests a chance to experience a real and un-choreographed interaction with local villagers

The visit culminates in a tour of the school and a singing performance by some of the children followed by a class interaction where children have an opportunity to meet guests and vice versa.  

Return to Bomani for lunch overlooking the camp waterhole before your afternoon game drive on the Ngamo Plains in Hwange National Park ending up at our unique Look Up blind at Stoffie’s Pan for sundowners and canapés and the truly remarkable close encounters with wildlife that are a feature of the Look Up.

Night drive back to the lodge and then enjoy a 3 course dinner out under the stars.

Day 6: Matobo National Park

Enjoy an early morning tea or coffee on your veranda before a hot breakfast in the main lodge. Then it’s time to pack up and make your way to  your next camp Amalinda Lodge at Matopos National Park, a journey time of approximately 5 hours.

Nestled in the private concession of the Matobo Hills National Park the camp is in a spectacular setting amongst the ancient boulders of the hills. It’s a unique lodge with rooms that have been cleverly built into the rocks.

Day 7: Matobo National Park

Activities at Amalinda Lodge include visits to Cecil John Rhodes' grave, tours to view San Bushmen paintings, rhino tracking, bird watching and walking in the Matobo Hills.

Day 8: Matobo National Park

Day 9: End of Itinerary

Today will be the last day of your tour and you will be transferred from Amalinda Lodge to Bulawayo airport for your onward flight home. Bulawayo airport is 60 Km away from the camp
