Glenstal Abbey is home to a vibrant community of Benedictine monks in County Limerick, and is a place where prayer, work, education and hospitality are lived out in harmony. Set within a striking 19th-century Norman-style castle, the Abbey is surrounded by approximately five hundred acres of rolling farmland,   ancient woodland, tranquil lakes and winding streams, creating a peaceful and contemplative landscape that feels both secluded and deeply connected to the rhythms of nature.

Grounded in the Benedictine tradition, Glenstal Abbey follows the Rule of Saint Benedict, with life in the monastery centred around balance, prayer and community. The monks gather throughout the day for communal worship in the early morning, at midday, in the evening and again at the close of the day, with extended periods dedicated to private prayer, study and the various practical works that sustain the life of the Abbey. This rhythm of prayer and work has shaped Glenstal into a place of quiet strength, reflection and spiritual depth.

From its early days when pioneering monks first established the community in a simple and modest setting, Glenstal has grown into a flourishing monastic house. Today it features a beautifully renovated Abbey Church, an extensive library, carefully maintained gardens, a working farm and a dynamic boarding school, all of which contribute to the life and vitality of the wider community.

Glenstal Abbey School is an integral part of this tradition, offering a distinctive Benedictine education that encourages students to develop their talents fully and discover their true potential. The school welcomes students from across Ireland, Europe and around the world, creating a rich and diverse international community. While this diversity is a hallmark of the school, it is the Benedictine spirit of community, reflection and balance that truly defines the Glenstal experience.

Renowned for strong academic results, sporting achievement and musical excellence, a Glenstal education is both challenging and holistic. Students are encouraged to grow not only intellectually, but also personally and spiritually, leaving the school well prepared for further study at universities in Ireland and internationally, and carrying with them a strong sense of purpose, discipline and community that reflects the enduring values of Glenstal Abbey.
