Day 1: Windhoek

You will be met by your guide or transfer driver at the airport and then transferred to your Windhoek accommodation. In the evening there will be a group meeting for an introduction to Namibia and the safari. After the meeting, the group will go for dinner. We spend the night in comfort at our accommodation and prepare for the next day’s adventure.

At Windhoek Game Camp we offer our guests luxury self-catering accommodation in the middle of nature. The camp is situated at Brakwater, about 20 minutes drive from the CBD of the City of Windhoek. This game farm in the city has a free-roaming giraffe, oryx, springbuck, waterbuck, impala, nyala, warthog, etc. etc.
Windhoek Game Camp is an owner-managed luxury, self-catering / B & B, "tented" lodge, in the middle of nature, surrounded by birds and game, yet very close to the pulse of Windhoek - for those who would like to have the best of both worlds.
Windhoek Game Camp nicknamed the "Game Farm" is a stone's throw away from Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, and in the center of Namibia. Especially for the 4 x 4 camping travelers, this is the address to start and end your journey to and from Etosha National Park, Sossusvlei, Swakopmund, or any other destination in Namibia.

Day 2: Waterberg Plateau National Park

On your second day, you depart from Windhoek traveling north through Namibia towards the Waterberg Plateau Park.
You make your way to your overnight camp close to the Waterberg Plateau, a flat-topped geological feature towering around 200m above the surrounding landscape.
All campsites offer secluded pitches on the soft, red sand of the Kalahari, separated by bushes and trees. Each pitch has its own shower/toilet in the central ablution block, with hot and cold water. Free WLAN (limited bandwidth) in the restaurant of the Waterberg Valley Lodge next to the central reception.

The ‘Waterberg’ (meaning water-mountain) plateau is 200 meters high and 20 km wide and has been the Herero people’s habitat for centuries. A scenic forest walk reveals the beauty of the area, a haven for wildlife as well as fauna and flora that will have avid photographers snapping away. We also take a moment to commemorate the loss of 40,000 Herero people during a battle with German soldiers in 1904 in this region.

Birders will love the rainy season in Etosha. After good rains, the salt pan fills with water attracting a
cloud of flamingos. More than 340 bird species have been counted in Etosha National Park. Among the
migratory species, the European bee-eater is possibly the most popular sighting. The game reserve is also
home to the world’s largest bird, the ostrich, and the heaviest flying bird, the kori bustard.

largest in Africa due to the vitamins and nutrients found in the ground), the endangered black rhino, and
even leopard. Lions are camouflaged in the pale-golden color of the grasslands, while giraffes rise- high
above most of the dry vegetation.

Day 5: Ghana

The lodge is situated on the bank of the Kunene River which forms the north-western border between Angola and Namibia. A lush canopy of indigenous trees provides shade for chalets and campsites, while the swimming pool has its spot on the sunny lawn.

From the bar and restaurant, a deck extends over the river, making for a spectacular location to enjoy a drink or a delicious meal with overlooking the river opportunities to boot.

We have set twelve Campsites in the Lodge grounds amid the lush undergrowth and under the shade of the wonderful old Leadwood and Jackalberry trees by the Kunene River. Most enjoy a location directly overlooking the river.

Live close to nature and as rough or as comfortably as you choose, but with all the facilities of Kunene River Lodge nearby.

Leaving our camp and game drive in search of elephants and proceed further south into the Hoanib River. The Hoanib River Valley at times seems frightening and often appears unnavigable. Once in the riverbed, we drive in a westerly direction. Abundant tree growth offers the desert elephant a healthy diet and provides shade to a variety of game against the Namibia sun. In the afternoon we will conduct a walk in the river looking for the dessert Elephants. Overnight camp is erected in one of the side arms of the Hoanib River. It is not unusual for the elephants to pass by the camp during the night.

As we move south, we move into an area where the landscape demands that you combine brute strength with leopard-like agility. Having navigated the terrain and steered towards 4x4 successes we while away the night at Porrus River Camp keeping an ear out for the telltale steps of a curious elephant coming to check out the new arrivals.

Named after the ‘six springs’ that surface nearby, Sesfontein is a dusty but photographic spot. Take in the natural beauty of the desert landscape, dominated by umbrella thorns and beautiful, feathery real fan palms, admire its hot springs and, if you get the privilege, interact with the native people – as much a part of this land as the midday heat. Rise early to witness the desert come to life.

Whether Palmwag is a destination on its own or a stop en route from the coast and Etosha to Epupa Falls and Kaokoland, it’s an ideal place to pop up the rooftop tent, sit around the campfire, explore the concession area and fall asleep to the gentle lullabies of Mother Nature.

Driving south to Twyfelfontein, we take a detour via the Petrified Forest geological site to see the ancient Bushman rock engravings at Twyfelfontien. Learn something new as local guides give you the inside story on the region’s history and geology before we head deeper into the desert – to Namibia's highest mountain, The Brandberg. Spending the night sleeping under the shadow of this giant 2,573-meter high granite monolith revered as an ancient Bushman spiritual site, is bound to leave a lasting impression.

Day 13: Spitzkoppe

The next stretch of our travels sees us turn directly south towards the icy Atlantic Ocean and the provocatively named Skeleton Coast. As we drive, we see the Spitzkoppe raising impressive 1,728-meters above the surrounding gravel plains. We head for the sharp-headed mountains where we will ‘wild’ camp surrounded by nothing but breathtaking vistas – for as far as the eye can see. Look out for places where trees grow defiantly from thin cracks in the rock faces, bearing testament to the ability of life forms to adapt and survive in this harsh and strange world. FYI: Wild camping is ‘roughing it’ – you don’t have running water or power, and everything we need we have to take with us in our vehicles.

For dinner, your guide will point you to the best on offer locally – a range of restaurants to choose from. It’s not hard to see why Swakopmund is Namibia’s most popular holiday destination.  Both dinners own expense.
