Welcome to the east coast – relaxation in Umdloti Beach
Upon arrival at Durban Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by an English-speaking driver. A comfortable transfer will take you along the sunny coast to your next destination – the charming resort of Umdloti Beach.
After checking into your accommodation, the evening is the perfect time to enjoy the fresh sea breeze on a relaxing walk along the beach and let the day come to a peaceful end. Feel the warm sand beneath your feet, listen to the sound of the waves and immerse yourself in the relaxed atmosphere of this popular coastal town – an ideal start to your time on South Africa's east coast.
From sugar cane fields to wilderness – safari adventure & St Lucia
Today, you continue your journey along lush sugar cane fields and pineapple plantations – a taste of the fertile coastal region of KwaZulu-Natal. Afterwards, you drive to the nearby Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, Africa's oldest game reserve. On an exciting game drive in an open safari vehicle, you explore the park's species-rich terrain. In addition to lions, elephants, giraffes and numerous antelope species, Hluhluwe is considered one of the best places to see the rare and endangered black rhinos. After this intense safari experience, you will head to St. Lucia, picturesquely situated between the Indian Ocean and the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. St. Lucia is not only popular with holidaymakers – a herd of hippos has also made its home here. Especially in the evening, when the sun goes down, the animals leave the water and stroll through the village to feed on the fresh grass. It is a fascinating spectacle that delights locals and visitors alike.
River safari & cultural change – from St Lucia to the Kingdom of eSwatini
Another highlight awaits you in the morning: a leisurely two-hour boat safari on the St Lucia Estuary. Your boat glides leisurely across the calm waters – and soon the impressive life of the river reveals itself: hippos emerge from the water grunting, eye you sleepily and then dive back down again. Crocodiles bask on the banks, seemingly motionless but always alert.
The bird life here is also spectacular – with a little luck, you will spot majestic pelicans, colourful kingfishers and many other feathered inhabitants of this unique wetland.
Afterwards, you will bid farewell to South Africa's coast and continue on to the small but fascinating kingdom of eSwatini – one of the last three remaining monarchies in Africa. This landlocked country, which borders South Africa and Mozambique, surprises visitors with its rolling, picturesque landscape that lies gently undulating beneath the African sky.
Your destination for the day is the green Ezulwini Valley, also known as the ‘Valley of Heaven’. Here you will visit a traditional craft market offering artistically crafted souvenirs and lovingly made handicrafts. Finally, in a Swazi cultural village, you will immerse yourself in the living history and traditions of the Swazi people – an authentic and impressive conclusion to this eventful day.
Back to South Africa – Welcome to the heart of the Panorama Route
After a relaxed breakfast, bid farewell to the small kingdom of eSwatini and return to South Africa. As the landscape slowly transitions into the majestic foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains, you approach the next highlight of your journey: the breathtaking Panorama Route.
In the afternoon, you will reach your accommodation in Hazyview or Sabie, idyllically located and a perfect starting point for discovering the natural wonders of this region.
The rest of the day is yours to spend at your leisure. Those seeking peace and quiet can relax in the hotel's lovingly landscaped garden and end the day with a good book or by the pool.
For those who prefer a more active holiday, there is an optional tour available:
How about an adrenaline rush with ziplining, where you swing from treetop to treetop – secured and guided – and experience nature from a bird's eye view? Or would you prefer a very special encounter? Then a visit to the Elephant Sanctuary is just the thing – here you have the opportunity to experience elephants up close, learn more about their behaviour and protection, and maybe even help with feeding or caring for them.
Whether you prefer a relaxed end to the day or an active adventure – today, you decide how you want to spend your afternoon.
Panorama Route & arrival at Kruger – natural wonders and bush experiences
Today, one of South Africa's most scenic routes awaits you: the legendary Panorama Route. On the way to your lodge on the edge of the world-famous Kruger National Park, you will discover impressive natural phenomena and viewpoints that are among the highlights of the region.
Your journey will take you to Bourke's Luck Potholes, bizarre rock formations shaped by thousands of years of water erosion that look like giant works of natural art. The journey continues to the Three Rondavels, three striking rock formations that rise out of the rock face like traditional round huts – with spectacular views of the Blyde River Canyon, which stretches majestically across the landscape and is one of the largest canyons in the world.
You will experience a particularly magical moment at God's Window: from this vantage point, on a clear day, you can enjoy an almost limitless view over the green, semi-tropical Lowveld – the lowlands that stretch far into the horizon. The drive also takes you over winding mountain passes with ever-changing views of lush forests, deep valleys and waterfalls.
In the early afternoon, you will reach your lodge near Kruger Park. After checking in, you can end the day however you like; relax on the terrace overlooking the bush – or experience the African wilderness up close on an optional walking safari with an experienced local guide. Follow animal tracks on silent feet, discover small details along the way, and listen to the sounds of the bush – an impressive nature experience that will stay with you for a long time.
