Day 3: York

North Yorkshire Moors Railway - Castle Howard

Relax in wood-panelled carriages on a renowned heritage railway as we travel through enchanting landscapes on the 180-year-old North Yorkshire Moors Railway, pulled by a magnificently restored steam engine or locomotive. Our journey takes us 24 miles across the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors from 1930s themed Pickering Station to Whitby, for a coach tour of the traditional seaside resort associated with Captain James Cook and Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

From here, we depart for Castle Howard, reputed to be Yorkshire’s finest historic house and estate, and certainly one of the greatest in England. It took over 100 years to complete this magnificent 18th-century mansion, set within 1,000 acres of beautiful landscape. Exhibitions display the varied history of the family who lived here for over 300 years, and the uses of Castle Howard.
