Day 2

Laikipia

Day notes

After an early breakfast, transfer to Wilson Airport for a scheduled flight to Nanyuki (depending on the time of year the flight can take between 45min or longer - as the some flights may go via the Mara first). On arrival at Nanyuki, you will be met by your safari team and transfer by road (a 2 hour drive) to Nayasura Camp where your safari will start at your first mobile tented camp.

You will be welcomed by your guide and team of Laikipia Masai and Samburu staff and the camels. The local Laikipia Masai call these rocks Nayasura and stone chippings suggest that they have been used as a camp for millennia. The rocks will be used as a starting point for you with a refreshing lunch and short afternoon rest in classic roomy safari tents.

Once it cools off a little, you will head out on a walk looking for game and getting a feel for the country. As the sun begins to set you will find yourself at the crest of Nayasura with drinks and bitings, looking for wildlife below and watching the baboons come back to roost on the face of the rock. Back at camp after hot showers and drinks around the fire you will have a sit down dinner under the stars.

Day 3

Laikipia

Day notes

From Nayasura you will head out early after breakfast to see as much game as possible on your walk north towards Nyarara Camp. Nyarara means cheetah in Masai and the camp was given this name because of a large male that has been seen in the area.

You will walk across large plains as well as mixed bush looking for herds of Common and Grevy’s zebra, oryx and Grant’s gazelle, which predominate on the large plains. In the mixed bush you will find Dik Diks, Gerenuk, Impala and Lesser Kudu if you are lucky enough to see them. The pack camels with your camp will have taken a more direct route than you and they will have arrived and set up the camp before your arrival. You will arrive at camp in time for lunch and a cold drink. After lunch you will relax and walk to a pretty spot for sundowners.

Along your walk you will walk across large plains as well as mixed bush. Herds of Zebra, Oryx and Grant’s gazelle predominate on the large plains. In the mixed bush you will find Dik Diks, Gerenuk, Impala and Lesser Kudu if you are lucky enough to see them.

Day 4

Missing Point

Day notes

Today, you will be heading down toward the Ewaso Nyiro River where you will stay, which runs along the eastern edge of the Laikipia Plateau and then turns eastward toward Samburu National Reserve. Along the way you will be looking for Eland, Steinbuck and Giraffe while enjoying the changing scenery. When you arrive at the river you may want to take a quick swim before lunch.

After lunch you can visit a local manyata and watch the livestock coming in for the night or head to a pretty rock for a sundowner. There are amazing granitic outcrops that are perfect for rock climbing with top ropes where guides can take you here if you wish. There are varying degrees of difficulty, from beginners to extreme.

End of Itinerary

Day notes

You may want to walk up early on this day for another small hike to see early morning activity in the bush & take advantage of more birdwatching before breakfast.

Depart for the airport for your outbound scheduled flight back to Nairobi, where you will continue your journey.

This journey is a great combination with:

  • Visiting the Masai Mara
  • Tracking Black Rhinos in Saruni
  • OR, for those who dare - there is the DRC for an overnight on the worlds largest lava lake and sitting with Gentle Giants in Africas jungles

Ask us for more information on what we can offer as addition to this itinerary.
