Today, you board a ferry that will transport you to Robben Island World Heritage Site (weather permitting). The island became infamous during South Africa's years under Apartheid rule. The government banished dissidents and political prisoners to the island, the most famous one being former president, Nelson Mandela. Once on the island you will visit all the historical sites around the Island including the graveyard of people who died from leprosy, the Lime Quarry, Robert Sobukwe’s house, the Bluestone quarry, the army and navy bunkers and the Maximum Security Prison where thousands of South Africa’s freedom fighters were incarcerated for years. The tour ends with a viewing of Nelson Mandela’s cell.
The afternoon is at your own leisure.
Today, you will experience all of Cape Town on a full day Cape Peninsula Tour. The tour begins with a scenic drive along the Atlantic coast, passing through the cosmopolitan suburb of Sea Point and Camps Bay with its glorious views of the Twelve Apostles, part of the Table Mountain range. Continue to the fishing village of Hout Bay, one of Cape Town’s best-kept secrets. From here we travel to the Cape Point Nature Reserve, comprising over 17,300 acres of indigenous fauna and flora. Here we can see a variety of wildlife that includes baboons, Reebok, Cape Mountain zebra, bontebok and the elusive eland. The reserve is also one of the world’s largest breeding grounds for tortoises. Birdwatchers, too, will find many fine species to observe. The majestic coastline offers drama worthy of being called “Nature’s Greatest Show.” We’ll be able to see the union of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans (as per legend) and may even feel the brisk wind that is dubbed the “Cape Doctor” for its presumed curative powers. Following the coastline along False Bay, you’ll return to Cape Town by way of Simon’s Town, where we visit the Penguin colony at Boulders Beach and Fish Hoek fishing village. We finish the tour at a popular wine estate where you will enjoy lunch and wine tasting.
Today, after breakfast you will transfer to Stellenbosch where you will spend the last few nights of your tour. Stellenbosch is the most well-known wine region in South Africa, and you will definitely be spoilt for choice of wonderful wines on offer here. Check-in and freshen up and this evening you will enjoy a 5-course Flavors Food and Wine Pairing Experience at the hotel.
Today, we start the morning at a wine estate for a cellar tour followed by a wine tasting. We make our way to Franschhoek with a photo stop at the Groot Drakenstein Prison where Nelson Mandela was released in Feb 1990. The village of Franschhoek nestled amongst the mountains, can easily be mistaken as being in Switzerland. After a short tour of the little town, a second wine tasting will take place in Franschhoek, followed by a lunch stop (optional own account), and maybe a chance to try some of the fresh trout that Franschhoek is known for.
After lunch the tour continues over the Hells Hoogte Mountain Pass back to Stellenbosch. It is easy to understand why Simon van der Stel decided to settle a village amongst the mountains. The back of the Hottentots Holland Mountains, the white gabled Cape Dutch homesteads and the oak lined streets and lanes all blend in to give this place a charm that will not be forgotten.
Today, you will indulge in the marvels of gastronomy and wine during an open-sided tram experience through the Franschhoek Valley. Get ready to be immersed in the culture through flavorful cuisine during multi-course meals paired with some of the finest wines and bubbles the Franschhoek Valley has to offer while enjoying the serene surroundings of the Franschhoek mountains and vineyards in the most exclusive locations.
