Arrival in Windhoek

You’ll be picked up at the airport by your tour guide and driven to your guest house, which is in the quiet Avis district on the eastern outskirts of Windhoek. Here you can recover from the long flight and refresh yourself in the swimming pool. In the afternoon, a short city tour awaits, and the choice of one of the many game dishes for dinner.

Day 2: Waterberg Plateau National Park

Your journey begins with a drive to the to the natural paradise of the Waterberg near the village of Otjiwarongo. With its unique vegetation, it is known for the presence of rare animal species, colourful birdlife, and magnificent landscapes. In the afternoon you can hike to the Waterberg plateau, with the marvellous view of the vast savannah your reward at the top.

Day 3: Northern Namibia

You continue northwards, with the option to visit the Hoba meteorite, which, weighing an estimated 60 tonnes, is the largest known meteorite in the world. Your destination is the very extensive Wildacker Guestfarm, a game and nature reserve that offers a comfortable stay in a typical Namibian atmosphere amid ancient tree-covered dunes. In the afternoon you can relax at the swimming pool and enjoy an aperitif while you watch the sunset.

Day 4: Bagani

In the Caprivi

Today you enter the most densely populated part of Namibia, the Okavango, on the way looking out for the picturesque round huts inhabited by the locals of the Kavango tribe. Shametu River Lodge is situated directly on the banks of the Okavango, just a few kilometres from the Mahango National Park. In the afternoon, you’ll go on a game drive in this interesting park, which is rich in wildlife.

Day 5: Kwando River

You cross the Okavango and continue through the Bwabwata National Park to Namushasha River Lodge, which is located south of Kongola on the Kwando River. From the wooden deck of the lodge, you have a direct view of the river, and, after lunch, there is time to relax before taking a boat trip on the Kwando and getting to experience "pure Africa".

Day 6: Kwando River

Bwabwata National Park

A game drive in the Bwabwata National Park awaits. The region around the Kwando River is considered to have the highest concentration of elephants in southern Africa, while the landscape around the Horseshoe is particularly interesting and attracts various animals and water birds. You’ll can also take time to relax and enjoy the typical African atmosphere of the lodge.

Day 7: Chobe River Front Namibia

To the Chobe River

You continue via Katima Mulilo to Kasane in Botswana, where a representative from Zovu Elephant Lodge is waiting to take you on a short boat trip, to the lodge, which is on an island in middle of the Chobe River. In the afternoon there’s an unforgettable boat trip waiting for you, during which you can marvel at crocodiles, elephants, hippos, and many water birds.

Day 8: Chobe River Front Namibia

Chobe National Park

A highly recommended game drive in the Chobe National Park, which is home to around 80,000 elephants, numerous hippos, and thousands of buffalo, is on today’s programme. The buffalo are usually only seen in the early morning or late afternoon though, when they leave the bush to quench their thirst at the river. In the afternoon you can take another boat trip before ending the evening in the lodge’s cosy atmosphere.

Day 9: Chobe River Front Namibia

Day trip Victoria Falls

A transfer takes you to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, where you’ll visit the famous waterfalls, where huge masses of water cascade over a 110-metre-wide rock face. The local Kololo people call the waterfall Mosi-oa-Tunya = "thundering smoke", a name that stems from the spray that rises to 300 metres and can still be seen 30 km away (Zimbabwe visa is not included in the price). You can take a helicopter flight to see the falls from above (optional but recommended) before returning to Kasane.

Day 10: Nata

Drive to Nata

Your journey proceeds southwards to Elephant Sands, just north of the village of Nata. The camp is located on a 16,000-hectare private nature reserve and offers plenty of wildlife all year round. As the name suggests, elephants are the main attraction, and in the afternoon, you’ll get to go on a game drive to admire large herds of them, as well as many other animals.

Day 11: Boteti River - Makgadikgadi Pans National Park

Direction Makgadikgadi National Park

Your next stop is on a 7,500-hectare fenced-in private game farm on the edge of the famous Makgadikgadi salt pans. With zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, impalas, kudu, leopards, and sometimes lions and wild dogs’ resident on the property, you’ll get to go on a sunset game drive to try to spot some of them. Due to the lack of any light pollution, in the evening you can marvel at the clear southern starry sky with its millions of stars stretching from horizon to horizon.

Day 12: Boteti River - Makgadikgadi Pans National Park

Nxai Pan National Park

Today you take a day trip to the Nxai Pan salt pans, the remains of the once mighty Lake Makgadikgadi, which was at one time the largest inland sea in Africa. With huge, whimsical baobab trees lining your path, look out for herds of wildebeest and zebra on the move, as well as the lively meerkats up close.

Day 13: Maun

To Maun

Today you reach the lively town of Maun, where the streets teem, not only with people, but also with goats, cattle, and donkeys. Your lodge is located north of town, on the Thamalakane River on the way to the Moremi Game Reserve. In the afternoon, you can take a boat trip in a mokoro, a type of canoe that is widely used in the Okavango Delta. The locals drive these mokoros along using long poles to push them off the ground below the surface.

Day 14: Khwai Community Area

Today you get to explore the Moremi Game Reserve, which at 4,872 kilometres2 is considered one of the most beautiful and diverse nature reserves on the entire Continent. The comfortable Sango Safari Camp sits in the shade of large trees and overlooks the Khwai River, where wild animals come to drink. This is the perfect base for excursions into the Moremi Park in the Okavango Delta, and, as you’re booked on a “fully inclusive” basis and all the activities are included in the price, you should take advantage of the afternoon game drive.

Day 15: Khwai Community Area

Moremi Game Reserve / Okavango Delta

Today offers game drives into the Moremi Game Reserve in the lodge's open safari vehicle. The park is part of the Okavango Delta, which as the largest inland delta in the world, never flows into the sea but pours into the Kalahari basin and forms numerous waterways lined with papyrus and palm trees. The Moremi Park is home to many wild animals, including the famous "Big 5", with some places only accessible via rickety pile bridges.

Day 16: Maun

Day 16

To Maun

In the morning, there is the chance for another game drive before heading back towards Maun, and your lodge on the Thamalakane River. Once settled in you can book a mokoro boat trip or a visit to a nearby cultural village (optional).

Day 17: Kalahari North

To the Kalahari

Today you travel via Ghanzi to the Mamuno-Buitepos border post where you leave Botswana and re-enter Namibia. Not far from the border, you’ll arrive at Kalahari Bush Breaks, a lovingly lodge set amid unspoilt and unique nature. Apart from the rooms, which all have small African details, the lodge is also known for its excellent barbecues around the campfire.

Departure

Sadly, your safari adventure comes to an end today, but you have the chance to enjoy the African sun one last time before heading to the airport, saying goodbye to your tour guide, and departing for home.
