Day 1: Northern Serengeti

Mon. 8 Jun 2020

Activities

Days at Sayari Camp revolve around exploring one of Africa’s last great wilderness areas. Whether you are looking for adventure and excitement or quiet contemplation and rest, Sayari – far off the tourist beat – has it all in abundance.

Game drives
Our expert field guides offer daily game excursions in modern vehicles to get you up close and personal to the myriad wildlife species that call this wilderness home. While we do have closed vehicles, for the best experience we strongly recommend our open game-viewing vehicles.  All vehicles have power points where you can recharge your devices, and are fitted with fridges to keep your drinks deliciously frosty.

Bush walks
Discover the Serengeti on foot: our experienced guides lead walking safaris in the bush to add an extra thrill to your African adventure.

Bush breakfasts, picnics, & star-lit dinners
For a day of uninterrupted game viewing, take a packed breakfast or lunch with you on a game drive and enjoy it in the shade of the trees along the river. Private dinners can be arranged in camp, for an unforgettable dining experience under the African night sky.

Cultural & community visits
Visit nearby Merenga village to learn about the Kuria tribe, their culture, traditions and way of life. You can also stop off at the community vegetable gardens, mentored and sponsored by Asilia, to collect fresh produce for your evening meal.

R&R
If time allows, you may want to skip some of the game excursions. Spend the morning in camp getting reacquainted with a good book or sun yourself beside the rim-flow pool. In the afternoon, indulge in a spa treatment from our expert therapists or savour a leisurely lunch as you scan the horizon for signs of the resident game.

Hot-air balloon safaris
Few experiences compare with gliding serenely over the vast plains of the Serengeti as the wildlife teems below, on a romantic and evocative balloon safari.

Activities

The vast Namiri Plains are almost completely unspoiled. Resident game is less indifferent than their counterparts in high-density tourist areas, making for a rewarding and exciting game-viewing experience every time.

Game drives
Enjoy twice daily game drives from Namiri Plains Camp with the knowledgeable guides. Study and photograph the big cats of the area at your leisure, and absorb the astonishing sight of massive herds of wildebeest appearing to take over the plains. Depending on your preferences, you can choose between a seven-seater open-sided vehicle (with canvas roof) or a five-seater closed vehicle (with pop-up roof). All vehicles have power points where you can recharge your devices, and are fitted with fridges to keep your drinks perfectly chilled.

Walking safaris
Heighten your senses to the sights, sounds and smells of the bush on a walking safari from Namiri Plains. This is one of the most intimate ways to experience the bush – the pace is easy and the memories will stay with you forever.

Cheetah research
Search for cheetah on the open plains of the Serengeti and meet up with the local cheetah researcher to compare notes and learn more about these endangered big cats. (Booking essential.)

Bush breakfasts, picnics & dinners
Maximise your time on the game-filled plains by enjoying a delicious packed breakfast or lunch provided by camp chefs while you’re on the move.
