On arrival at Cottars Airstrip you are met by your driver guide from Cottar’s 1920s Camp for a game drive, arriving at the Camp in time for a late lunch / afternoon tea.

Located in the south east of the Maasai Mara and bordering the Serengeti National Park and Loliondo reserves, the Cottar 1920’s camp is within a 22,000 acre exclusive concession.

The Cottar Safari tradition began in 1919 with the arrival in Kenya of the American White Hunter, Charlie Cottar from Oklahoma, USA.

Extending an era of luxury and quality the Cottars 1920’s Camp returns to the original spirit and essence of the safari, reminiscent of a golden era; an era of romance, professional guiding, adventure and elegance. Situated in such a large area, guests are almost guaranteed exclusivity on game drives in a region of prolific wildlife.

The tents are furnished with 1920’s antiques, all with en-suite dressing rooms with canvas baths and bucket showers. Activities include day and night game drives, bush walks, swimming, fishing, bush meals and massages.

The camp accommodates up to 16 guests in authentic, spacious white canvas tents, each one with a canopied veranda and carefully located to ensure privacy.
Each tent is elegantly furnished with safari antiques from the 1920’s, private en suite dressing rooms and safari-style bucket showers.

The camp is equipped with a library and reading room. By bush standards, the cuisine and service is of the highest quality.

Guides take guests on walks through the bush to experience close encounters with wildlife. Being close to the border with the Serengeti, the spectacular wildebeest and zebra migration moves through this area every year during late June to October and prolific game viewing is guaranteed whether on foot or in a 4x 4 vehicle.

NOTE: We are suggesting for the period at Cottars you take the private guide who is Calvin Cottar himself, the owner and one of the best private guides in East Africa for them to have the best experience. See his daily supplement to add on.

The Loita Hills are one of Kenya's last remaining true wilderness areas. The low-lying mountain range is located south of Nairobi and northeast of the Masai Mara.
