Days 2 - 3: Eastern Hwange National Park

Today, you drive to Hwange National Park.

Activities at Elephant's Eye focus mainly on 4WD game drives. Guests normally take two game drives per day (morning and late-afternoon) on the lodge’s private concession, or do a full-day game drive into Hwange National Park. Other options include a trip to a local homestead, and a visit to the Painted Dog Conservation Centre.

Days 4 - 5: Matobo National Park

You next destination is the Matobo National Park.

While game viewing at Camp Amalinda is conducted both by vehicle and on foot, the activities here are less focused on big game than in other Zimbabwean national parks. On the sociological side of things the nearby graves of Cecil John Rhodes and Leander Starr Jameson are ‘must sees’; the park was formerly called the ‘Rhodes Matopos National Park’, in honour of Cecil Rhodes.

Guests can also see some of the development work within local communities, funded by the camp’s profits and their ‘Mother Africa Programme’, or visit a traditional village to see how the local Matabele people have lived for centuries.

Human history aside the Matobo Hills National Park also has an intensively protected game area, with a high density of rhino – and Amalinda offers the opportunity to track both black and (particularly) white rhino on foot. The open terrain and experienced guides give guests a good chance to first find and then approach these giants. The area around Camp Amalinda is also famed for its high density of Black Eagles which can often be seen soaring high above camp.

Day 6: Lake Mutirikwi

Today, you travel to the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, which are situated not far from Norma Jeane's Lake View Resort.

Days 7 - 9: Gonarezhou National Park

Your next stop is the Gonarezhou National Park and the luxurious Chilo Gorge Lodge.

The diversity of activities offered by Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge is excellent, and includes morning and afternoon game drives and nature walks in the north of Gonarezhou National Park, accompanied by fully trained and armed professional guides. It’s also possible to walk to the Chivilila Falls, about 2km from camp – again with an armed guide. Game cruises on the Save River are another option (water levels permitting) as is canoeing during the rainy season.

Visits to the Shangaan village of Mahenye, with which the lodge has very close ties, can be arranged on request. Guests can enjoy afternoon drive around the village, spending a couple of hours exploring Mahenye and visiting the village school.

Day 10: Mutare

Tucked away on the lower slopes of a tree-covered hillside in the Eastern district of Zimbabwe lies a delightful little leisure resort named Musangano, meaning ‘the place where people meet’. Visitors soon fall under its spell and realize that it is not just a meeting place because its peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, comfortable accommodation, excellent cuisine and splendid views invite to linger and unwind.

Musangano Lodge offers its guests a fine range of exciting outdoor activities, from swimming and games, nature walks and birdwatching, to hiking and biking or day trips to some of the special attractions of the Eastern Highlands.

Day 11: Harare

Today it is a short drive to Harare. Enjoy a walk through the city center or just relax at the beautiful Lodge.

Day 12: End of Itinerary

Depending on your flight time, you drive to the airport and return the car.
