Day 1: Chyulu Hills National Park

Welcome to Africa! As you arrive in Nairobi, Kenya, you will be met by our representative for your connecting flight to the Chyulu Hills and Campi ya Kanzi for your four-night stay! On arrival at the airfield, Samson, your guide, will welcome you to the African wilderness. The airstrip is just a 10 minute game drive from the lodge.

We cannot think of a better introduction to Africa than a game walk. On arrival, after orientation, your guide will escort you on a guided walk to the saddle of Longido, a massive granite hill from where the view on Kilimanjaro at sunset is superb. Drive back to the lodge where you’ll enjoy an excellent five-course Italian dinner.

Day 2: Chyulu Hills National Park

This morning you will wake early and head out to the lake where you have the opportunity to see hippos and crocodiles. After some time at the lake you will enjoy a sumptuous bush breakfast prepared under the shade of a baobab tree. After breakfast, continue on a scenic safari through several different landscapes: from the Chyulu Hills to the savannah to the plains bush. You will see many different species of mammals and birds, ranging from giraffe to zebra, from eland to hartebeest, from wildebeest to impala, and from buffalo to elephant, with the chance to see lion, cheetah and leopard. Arrive back at camp in time for lunch.

In the afternoon it will be your choice which activities you’d like to partake in. Options may include a walk to Ol Kiri, a young volcanic hill with superb views over the savanna, or visiting a local Maasai village, or simply relaxing at the camp. After sunset enjoy a game drive from the camp, returning to a candlelit dinner meant to spoil you with dishes like homemade ravioli, roast meat or fresh lake fish, organic vegetables from our garden, homemade ice cream or tiramisu, together with Antonella’s vineyard’s wines.

Day 3: Chyulu Hills National Park

Wake early for another full day in this incredible setting. Again, the choice is yours how you would like to best spend your day after an exhilarating morning game drive through the surrounding area. Consider horseback riding or a scenic flight near Mount Kilimanjaro, or perhaps you’d prefer to spend this day enjoying a massage on the camp premises (at additional cost). However you choose to spend your day, we’re certain it will be an absolute pleasure surrounded by this natural beauty. Enjoy another delectable five-course dinner tonight, then drinks around the open fire, admiring the exquisite Africa night sky.

Day 4: Tsavo East National Park

Imagine starting your day with the aroma of fresh Kenya coffee or tea brought to your tent by your personal Maasai attendant, while you enjoy the privacy of your veranda overlooking majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. You could take a guided walking safari with local trackers to show you the rich flora and fauna of this undiscovered paradise, all the while knowing that you are playing a great role in the conservation of this unique habitat. Or perhaps you’d prefer another game drive near camp, where you will return for breakfast. You will then depart with your guide to Tsavo East, at Ithumba Camp. This is the base of David Sheldrick Trust, where rescued baby elephant orphans are released into the wilderness. To visit the project you will have to become a foster parent of at least one elephant ($50 adoption fee). In the late afternoon you will visit the elephants and help the attendants giving them milk – a very emotional experience. The evening will be spent at Ithumba Camp, which has tents with en-suite bathrooms and running water.

Day 5: Tsavo East National Park

At 5:30 am you will be awoken with tea or coffee brought to your tent before driving to the barracks. Here you will be able to give milk once again to your adopted elephant, and then walk with him/her and the others outside of the barracks. It often happens that rescued orphans, now adult, will join the group. This is a truly unforgettable experience – to walk among these grand elephants… Around 10 am, the elephants will go to the “mud bath”, where you will once again give milk to “your elephant” and enjoy watching him/her and the others splashing into the water!

After lunch you will be flown back to Campi ya Kanzi, passing over the Tiva River and the wilderness of Tsavo. This is where Beryl Markham was flying, helping Bror Blixen in his hunting safaris. Just before landing we will fly you over the amazing artwork of Andrew Rogers, (www.andrewrogers.org). In August 2010 Andrew Rogers visited Campi ya Kanzi and with 1,200 Maasai did three amazing rock sculptures, visible from space. This is the first artwork he did in Africa, and the 13th place on the planet. Continuing this incredible day back at camp, enjoy a game drive to Okoikuma (tortoise in Maa), a look out hill with a superb view of Kilimanjaro. Drive back into Campi ya Kanzi after sunset, enjoying a night drive and possibly spotting some of the big cats – including the elusive leopard! Tonight, beneath the starlight outside of Tembo House, recall the memories of the past days as you spend your last night lulled to sleep by the sounds of the bush.

Day 6: End of Itinerary

It’s time to bid farewell to the bush. After breakfast you will fly to Nairobi via light aircraft. On arrival in Nairobi you will be met by our driver who will take you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your international flights onward, or Nairobi Hotel (depending on your flight times). You may request a day room at the Nairobi Hotel with afternoon shopping if your flight home does not depart until the evening. Accommodation not included today.
