Day 1: Arusha

Arrive Kilimanjaro International Airport. On arrival you will be met and transferred to Arusha Coffee Lodge in Arusha for the night. Overnight on a bed and breakfast basis.

Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater

We head to Lake Manyara National Park this morning. Lake Manyara is a shallow, alkaline lake at the base of a sheer stretch of the western Rift Valley escarpment. Transfer to Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge and spend one night on a full board basis. At Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge we appreciate the importance of quality family time. We are also committed to ensuring that you can relax, secure in the knowledge that your children are having as great a safari holiday in Tanzania as you are. With this in mind we offer a wide range of family-friendly accommodation options; children's dining; baby-sitting, and plenty of adventure, sports and educational entertainment for children of all ages.

FAMILY ACCOMMODATION

We can arrange for adjoining rooms for the accommodation of families. We can also offer triple rooms or additional beds. Cots and baby-sitting services can be provided (prior notice appreciated).

CHILDREN'S MEALS

All our meals are generous buffet-styled presentations, with something to suit absolutely everyone. Highchairs can be provided, as can baby-friendly food. We are also delighted to offer slightly earlier children's meals (as early as 12 noon and 6.30 pm) - tailored to suit your children.

CHILDREN'S ENTERTAINMENT

The lodge offers its own swimming pool (supervised by a qualified life-guard but not suited to small children other than under parental supervision).

We also offer a wide selection of board-games and books on Africa and the wilderness. Our professional nature guides also offer nightly talks and video presentations on wildlife. Added to this, we can offer:

 Family breakfasts in the park or on the escarpment

 Mountain biking, boating, canoeing, guided walks, bird spotting and cultural tours

 Cultural dancing and heritage displays

 Educational evening talks by our resident naturalists

 A selection of board games and books on Africa and wildlife

Day 3: Lake Magadi

After breakfast we leave for Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area to spend two nights at Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge on a full board basis.

Day 4: Lake Magadi

Today we head into Ngorongoro Conservation area, and after driving steadily down the steep 610 metre sides of the crater, we enjoy spectacular game viewing in the crater – which is almost guaranteed to turn up four of the Big Five, as well as a rich variety of birds, all viewed against the backdrop of the thickly forested crater walls. Picnic lunch to be enjoyed in the crater.

Day 5: Central Serengeti

After breakfast depart for the Serengeti. We have the option to stop off at Olduvai Gorge for a short visit and an insight into history of the region (optional, entry fee to be paid). It is at Olduvai Gorge where, in 1959, Mary Leakey made her ground-breaking discovery of a hominid (human-like) skull dating back 1.8 million years. Since then other hominid species, possibly our early ancestors, have been found in the area dating as far back as 3.7 million years. The whole area is often referred to as the ‘cradle of mankind.’ There is also time to visit a Masaai village before continuing to the Serengeti to settle in for the evening. Transfer to the Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge and spend three nights on a full board basis.

Day 6: Central Serengeti

Spend the day in the Serengeti, with plenty of time to enjoy game drives as well as visit the education centre which provides some interesting information on this vast park.

Balloon safari

If you would like to go on an early morning balloon safari over the Serengeti, this will be possible but please note that balloon safaris can only be organised by PRE-ARRANGEMENT and there is an additional cost for this. Return to the Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge and overnight on a full board basis.

Day 7: Central Serengeti

Spend the day in the Serengeti, with plenty of time to enjoy game drives and perhaps take the children to the Seronera Information Centre which is situated next to the wildlife offices in Seronera and consists of an open-air exhibit on a kopje. There are tables and shade available where one can enjoy a packed lunch and it is possible to order tea, coffee or soft drinks from the small coffee shop. An open-air exhibition like a museum along the trails at the Serengeti Visitor Centre contains interpretative panels that explains in detail about the Serengeti ecosystem and great migration .Return to the Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge and overnight on a full board basis.

Day 8: End of Itinerary

This morning you will transfer to the Seronera airstrip with a game drive en route, for your departure flight to Kilimanjaro. End of services.
