Day 11: Grootbos Private Nature Reserve

Start the day bright and early as the children head to the small farm next to the stables to collect their eggs for breakfast. After breakfast, visit the beach where children will learn about inter-tidal zones and see a stone-age cave. Then it’s time for a delicious picnic lunch as you explore rock pools and spend time playing in the sand. In the afternoon, return to the lodge for a pony ride in the paddock. That evening, kids can enjoy a special dinner in the playground, followed by a fun night walk as they discover frogs in the area. Then it’s time for the adults to relax with another delectable dinner while their kids are cared for.

An alternative for the day is to head off as a family to Kleinbaai Harbour. Here you’ll go on an exciting boat trip to see dolphins, penguins, seals, sharks and whales (whale season is from June – December). Get back to the lodge and enjoy a delicious brunch and then plant a special family tree on our reserve. After a light lunch, go on a Day in the Life of a Strandloper tour, which introduces you to the history of the Khoisan people who lived here in prehistoric times. End the day off with a magical farewell family dinner in the boma under the light of the stars.
