Arrive at Mombo Camp

Mombo is seen as the flagship of Wilderness Safaris and for good reason..

Much of the Delta has more water than land, but Mombo stands on the largest landmass in the Okavango delta– fittingly called Chief’s Island – so there’s plenty of dry land for the soil to work with the water and sun to create a fertile ecosystem. The original wetlands and papyrus that covered this area long ago formed a mass of decaying vegetation that burnt and smouldered underground (known as ‘mombo’ in seYei). The result is plenty of nutrient-rich ash which has created very fertile soils. All of this means that this area attracts large amounts of herbivores, and where there are herbivores there are predators. Mombo can contest to be one of the best places to view wildlife in Africa.

All meals, twice daily scheduled camp activities, park fees, laundry and all local drinks excludes premium imported brands and champagne.

Located in the heart of the Okavango Delta, Jao is predominantly a water camp, and as we will be there in June, the flood waters will be high. This will give us the opportunity to explore the beautiful waterways and photograph the specatular birdlife from motorised boats and mokoros(a traditional dugout canoe).

Jao also has a beautiful spa, so those that are feeling they need a bit of TLC after a long safari will be able to book treatments.
