Makushu is situated approximately 5.5 hours drive from Johannesburg, the nearest town is Makhado (Louis Trichardt), about an hours drive away.
Marvel at the sight of hundreds of majestic Boabab trees on route to the village. Upon arrival at the Royal Kraal, the chief and the princess will welcome you and share more about the Village history. Hereafter you will be welcomed by the Royal Domba dancers. Check in at your families home and get to know your hosts before sharing a delicious traditional dinner and storytelling session with the community.
Tonight you will experience the big skies of Venda land with warm hospitality of the community. Have you ever tasted traditional beer before? Now is your chance to learn how the local traditional beer is brewed and enjoyed by the locals. Look out for the house “flying the flag”. Bring a little extra money as the beer makers will be selling small bottles for you to enjoy at dinner.



Wake up to the sound of the African alarm clock (Cock-adoodle-dooo). Hike up the mountain to get a birds-eye-view of the village and the beautiful Nzhelele Dam before heading back down for breakfast.Explore the village route is a walk around the community learning about all the colourful traditions. Here you will meet the locals, engage with the community and see their arts and crafts and many of the local talents. Enjoy another traditional lunch at another host family.
Get in touch with your creative side as you engage with the local Makushu people in arts & crafts. Create a master piece that you can take home with you as a souvenir. You will also get to see and take part in traditional floormaking.
In the evening enjoy sundowners at the rock, followed by another traditional dinner and story telling.



Time to bid farewell to your new family after you have enjoyed breakfast and make your way to your next destination.
If you would like to extend this unique experience it is possible to add a third night in Makushu where you will get to take part in additinal activities such as beer brewing, wood carving, star gazing and a tavern experience.

Some of the well-known attractions include Lake Fundudzi and Mapungubwe World Heritage site. Makushu is about an hour and a half's drive to the Beitbridge Border post (Zimbabwe) and just over 2 hours to the Pont Drift border Post (Botswana). It is also less than 3 hours drive to the Pafuri Punda Maria Gate to the World Renowned Kruger National Park.
