You need to love the rainforest to appreciate a stay at the Datai as it's set among a 10-million-year-old rainforest,

Datai Bay is rated as one of the top ten beaches in the world by National Geographic and, together with the resort’s surrounding jungle, is host to a wealth of wildlife, some of which is endemic to the area. You may well spot Dusky langurs, Tokay geckos and Sunda colugos during your stay.

The accommodation at the Datai is split into 3 categories - Caonpy, Rainforest and Beach.

Rooms are set in a 3-storey building, with tropically inspired rooms offering a real sense of place. These rooms are close the main swimming pool and the Dining Room restaurant. The Canopy Suites are a good choice if you would like more space as they are almost twice the size of the Canopy Deluxe and Canopy Premium Rooms.

The Datai has some superb private villas.

The Rainforest Collection of 40 villas is set by a stream well within the rainforest. 8 villas have private pools.

The more recently opened Beach Collection consists of 14 villas set directly on the white-sand beach of Datai Bay. They are completely enclosed within lush gardens that open on to the pristine white-sand beach.

The Dining at the Datai of course is superb.

We especially like the Gulai, which is the Datai's award-winning restaurant serving authentic Malaysian cuisine. It's tucked deep in the rainforest and has a Malay kampung house style of decor, with its floor seating area, rustic dining tables and subtle lighting creating a magical, uniquely Malay atmosphere.

The Thai Restaurant (The Pavilion) is also noteworthy for it's superb Thai cuisine and the great location, appearing to float on the canopy of virgin rainforest (it's set on 30-metre stilts, which allows far-reaching views over the rainforest).

The lush foliage around the Datai is home to some of the most fascinating animals, including the Long-tailed macaque, Black giant squirrel, Oriental-pied hornbill, and more.

If you are lucky you will see The Datai Langkawi’s resident Great hornbill pair flying over the rainforest canopy as you sip an evening drink on The Lobby Lounge terrace.

Every guest is entranced by the nightly chorus of tiny Green paddy field and Common tree frogs in the lily pond in The Lobby.

The resident naturalist at the Datai leads daily walks through the rainforest which are well recommended.

The Spa at the Datai is situated along a small winding stream surrounded by the sounds and subtle aromatic scent of the rainforest. It feels like total bliss to enjoy a spa treatment to the backdrop of the rainforest.

The Spa's signature treatments incorporate the healing plants and herbs found in the rainforest; adopting age-old traditions and philosophies of the Malay culture known as Ramuan.

Facilities at the Datai include non-motorised watersports, sailing trips and a superb golf course just a short distance away. If you're a golfer you'll want to play the Ernie Els designed course.

The Datai has a very special atmosphere and is an iconic resort in South East Asia. Our relationship with the Datai goes back to its origins over 25 years ago, when our Company Director was among the first to promote the resort to UK customers.

Bear in mind that the Datai is in an isolated location so there's nowhere within walking distance. Exploring the island is a good idea however and many of our customers rent a car for a day or two. Langkawi is easy to navigate, driving is on the left and traffic and distances are low.
