Days 1 - 2: Shamwari Private Game Reserve

 Arrive at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg

Meet and assistance on arrival by an official representative, who will assist you with check-in for a domestic flight to Port Elizabeth. 

Recommended flight: Airlink 4 Z 797, Johannesburg - Port Elizabeth, departing at 10:10 am, arriving at 11:55 am (not included)

Private transfer to Shamwari, approximately 1 hour.

Riverdene Family Lodge has a welcoming ease and warmth and is a place where families are always at home and where guests become friends. Surrounded by a wealth of natural beauty, Riverdene Family Lodge overlooks the widespread bushveld of the Eastern Cape. The newly renovated lodge is the ideal place for families to bond for hours as gentle giants roam in the distance, while children can engage in the Kids on Safari programme.

Expert tips

Upon arrival at Riverdene Family Lodge, parents can register their kids for the Kids on Safari Adventure Centre. Kids will have access to both indoor and outdoor activities throughout their stay. Child minding is available at an additional cost for children younger than 4 years as they are too young to join game drives. While kids under the age of 4 years old are not permitted on game drives, there are a host of activities for them to enjoy.  The lodge offers a children’s coordinator at Riverdene.

Visits to the Born Free Foundation Big Cat Rescue Centre are focused on promoting the conservation of species and the protection of habitat whilst maintaining a humane and compassionate approach to the welfare of animals.

Children staying at Shamwari Private Game Reserve have the chance to run wild at the Kid’s Adventure Centre at Riverdene.

Day 3: Plettenberg Bay

11 am: Once you have completed your checkout formalities, you will be met by for your private transfer to Plettenberg Bay. The driving distance is approximately 232 km. Visit Tsitsikamma en-route.

Depending on the degree of interest, Monkeyland and Birds of Eden can be visited.

Day 5: Hermanus

Once you have concluded check-out formalities, you will be transferred to Hermanus. The driving distance is approximately (455 km).

The number one reason to visit Hermanus is to catch a glimpse of the southern right whales that populate Walker Bay from June to early December. The whales migrate annually to South Africa's Cape Whale Coast from their feeding grounds in Antarctica and spend their time here mating, calving, and raising their young.

Day 6: Cape Town

After concluding check-out formalities, you will be collected for the Abalone Tour.
Meet up with your tour guide at the Heart Shed in the New Harbour of Hermanus. Sit back and relax while you learn about the history of abalone in South Africa and Hermanus' Walker Bay area and the biology and life cycle of this mysterious mollusc and the unfortunate demise of wild stocks due to over-harvesting and poaching. Here your guide will share information about abalone in its natural environment and also introduce visitors to abalone farming.
After your informative intro, boot up for a guided walk to experience the aquaculture industry of abalone farming firsthand on one the oldest and largest abalone farms in South Africa, Abagold. Visit Abagold's state-of-the-art abalone hatchery where broodstock is cared for and baby abalone (spats) are produced. Experience the farming activities of feeding, tank cleaning and sorting of the abalone firsthand, as you walk among the 40,000 baskets on the farm.
The tour showcases the impressive sea water pumps and aeration system, backup power generation, innovative water reticulation & renewable energy projects, which includes viewing the construction of Mean Sea Level the first-ever wave energy converter in South Africa. Learn more about the system & technical infrastructure that keeps Abagold's 10,000,000 abalone healthy and happily housed in their 40 000 baskets!

Day 7: Cape Town

Today you will be collected after your breakfast for your private Cape Peninsula tour.

On this tour, you will see why the area earned the name of The Fairest Cape.  Sit back and relax, as you’re driven along the exquisite stretch of coastline known as Millionaire’s Paradise – from Clifton to Camps Bay, to the exclusive beach hamlet of Llandudno – towards the charming working harbour of Hout Bay. Enjoy a bit of time exploring the Marina Wharf before proceeding with your tour.

Head up the coast towards the charming Simon's Town to visit the enchanting African Penguin Colony. Boulder's Beach: The beautiful Boulders Beach is one of Cape Town’s most visited beaches and the only place in the world where you get close to African Penguins.

 Lunch will be enjoyed at one of the restaurants in Simon's Town (For your own account)

Board your vehicle and head further down the Peninsula to explore the Cape of Good Hope Section of the Table Mountain National Park, an integral part of the world-renowned Cape Floral Kingdom.

Return to your hotel to spend the rest of your evening at leisure.

Day 8: Cape Town

 This morning, if the cable car station is open (subject to wind conditions), we will take a cable car ride up to the summit of Table Mountain (weather permitting) for spectacular views of the City, its Waterfront, Camps Bay, the majestic mountains and possible all the way to Cape Point.

Next , you will pass one of the country’s oldest colonial buildings, The Cape Castle and the Company Gardens.  Then you’ll be driven past Parliament Buildings, City Hall which is where Nelson Mandela made his first public speech after his release from prison and the Slave Lodge, then through the cobblestoned hills to the beautifully colourful homes of the Bo-Kaap in the Malay Quarter.
