Day 2 - 3

Randilen

Day notes

After a hearty safari breakfast, you take a leisurely drive to The Burka Coffee Estate for a tour followed by an alfresco lunch in the garden. After lunch you will be chauffeured to Arusha Airport to board the Executive Grand Caravan and fly to Kuro Airstrip in Tarangire National Park. At the airstrip, you will be met for an afternoon game drive in Tarangire National Park. The park is a dry-season refuge for a variety of game. Migratory animals like elephants, wildebeests, zebras, gazelles and buffalo gather at the Tarangire River in impressive numbers and as always, the predators follow. The variety of species also makes the park a bird-watchers paradise.

Your accommodation, Tarangire Treetops Lodge features the Main Lodge which encases a thousand year old baobab tree and 20 tree houses all of which are elevated above the ground affording views over the tops of surrounding marula and baobab trees. Enjoy a hearty safari dinner at the lodge followed by rest and relaxation.

You spend another day at Tarangire National Park with a full day of activities including game drives, a game walk, visits to an authentic Maasai village, sundowners atop Sunset Hill and a night game drive. Named after the river that flows through the park, Tarangire is one of the lesser known parks in Tanzania, giving it a real air of undiscovered Africa. Famous for its tree climbing pythons, massive baobabs and large herds of elephant, Tarangire National Park is small but still home to a significant wildlife population, with a density of wildlife matched only by Ngorongoro. Birding is particularly good here; the swamps, tinged green year round, are the focus over 450 bird varieties, the most breeding species in one habitat anywhere in the world! Lunch and dinner will be served at Treetops You will meet your fellow travelers in time for an afternoon game drive and later return to your lodge for the evening.

Day 4 - 5

Karatu

Day notes

After breakfast you proceed for a game drive through the Tarangire National Park. With an area of 525 sq. miles, Tarangire provides endless opportunities to observe its abundance of wildlife including buffalos, elephants, lions and a vast number of antelopes. Stop at leisure for a picnic lunch on your way to Kuro Airstrip in Tarangire and connect with your flight to Manyara Airstrip. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your lodge where you will check in to your charming cottage style accommodation, The Manor at Ngorongoro. Thereafter, you will be chauffeured to the township of Karatu on a visit of an authentic African market returning to The Manor in time for high tea.

After an early breakfast on your second day, you descend to the Ngorongoro Crater. Today you spend the day on the crater floor viewing game; as many as 30,000 animals populate the crater. Lions, cheetahs, and jackals prey upon large herds of zebra, wildebeest, and antelope. The lake on the floor of the crater supports wading hippos and a myriad of bird life. Elephants are rare within the crater, though lone, non-breeding bulls roam the region, their great tusks reaching out before them. In between you will be served a picnic hamper lunch on the crater floor. You return to your lodge late afternoon for rest and relaxation.

Day 6 - 7

Northern Serengeti

Day notes

This morning, you have the option of visiting the Lake Manyara National Park or staying at the lodge to explore the estate. Choose from a host of activities including horseback riding, cycling, an estate tour or a spa treatment (1 treatment per person) or, you may opt to just relax. After lunch you will be driven to the Manyara airstrip for your onward flight to the seemingly endless plains of the Serengeti that open up across the horizon. These grasslands draw all manner of African game to graze - zebras, migrating wildebeests, antelope – and these animals in turn attract all manner of predators – lions, cheetahs, hyenas – that follow the great herds as they roam in search of water. We are pulled here as well, to witnesses the entire spectacle; the interconnection of land and wildlife, of predator and prey, to experience the circle of life, staged on the wide horizon. The afternoon will be spent on a game drive returning to Serengeti Migration Camp in time for sundowners. You will spend the next 2 nights at this well-appointed tented camp.

After breakfast the next day, you will spend the full day exploring the vast Serengeti. Except for a late summer and fall visit to the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, the migrating wildebeest spend most of the year traversing the Serengeti. Depending on the time of year, the hundreds of thousands wildebeests accompanied by zebras and gazelles, follow the rain in search of fresh forage. A second day at Serengeti National Park puts most visitors on the track of the herd. Enjoy a Bush lunch, after which the afternoon will be spent game viewing. You will return to Serengeti Migration Camp in time for sundowners and dinner.
