Lower Zambezi and Gonarezhou - 2025

Day notes

After clearing the entry formalities for Zambia you will be met in the arrivals area by your guide and host James Duncan - Anderson for your time in Zambia. You will then have a short charter flight from here through to the Lower Zambezi NP where your safari begins.

Right from the airstrip you will be game viewing on your way to camp so expect the transfer to take much longer than expected. While you are here James will guide and show you around this extensive National Park that has made headlines recently with it's excellent wildlife sightings especially its packs of Wild Dogs that at this time of year would be denning and feeding their puppies. Along with these rare predators you will also have a wonderful menu of animals and birds to see along this beautiful flood plain area of the Zambezi Valley. Day and Night Game Drives along with bush walks are all part of the experience here and enhanced with James's long experience in this area and bush knowledge.

Day notes

You move camp today which is still in the same central area of the Lower Zambezi but now you are on an actual island so the focus is more on the river with canoeing and river cruises being a big part of the safari day, but you will still be able to do game drives and walks depending on what is happening at the time.

Today you leave Lower Zambezi with an early charter flight to get you back into Lusaka to catch the Qatar Airways flight through to Harare. Here you will be met in the airport after clearing the entry formalities and then a quick transition over to the domestic side of the airport for the charter flight through to Gonarezhou National Park. Doug Macdonald who is your new guide and host will meet you here when you land. From here you have a game drive transfer into camp which again may take longer than expected with all that you can see along the way in this prime game viewing area.

This safari has been planned around the current Qatar Airways schedule so there is no need to add nights in cities, you get to spend more time on safari.

To change camps no time safari time is lost as the transition is essentially just an extended game drive through to your next camp which is a mirror image of the first. This camp further up stream along the Runde River and situated right in view of the iconic Chilojo Cliffs - probably one of Zimbabwe's and certainly Gonarezhou most well known but little visited land marks.

This area has a very different feel to it from the junction area of the park with more diversity of landscapes, and still an amazing list of animals and birds that make this park a very special place. Doug will be able to show you some of the hidden areas he has uncovered in the many years he has been working and discovering this vast park which is now quickly becoming one of Zimbabwe's must see destinations.

To change camps no time safari time is lost as the transition is essentially just an extended game drive through to your next camp which is a mirror image of the first. This camp further down stream along the Runde River where another of Zimbabwe's large perennial rivers converge with it. The plan would be to arrive in camp in time for lunch and then you can settle in and get ready for the afternoon activities.

You have a flight today that will take you back to Harare for an evening or late afternoon flight to your next destination.
