Days 1 - 3: Cape Town

WELCOME TO SOUTH AFRICA, the "World in one Country" as it is known and you will soon discover why...!

Transferred option:
You will be met on arrival at the airport, and transferred to The Last Word Constantia Hotel.

Self-drive option:
On arrival at the airport, you will be met by a representative of ours who will assist you with changing money, purchasing a SIM Card etc. Make your way to the car hire depot, situated outside the Arrivals Hall, where our representative will assist with the car hire. Please remember, in Southern Africa we drive on the left-hand side of the road.  Some suggestions for your time in Cape Town and surrounds are as follows:

  • Participate in a guided half or full day City Tour, either in a vehicle or on a walking tour if you don't want to walk the streets of the inner city at your own time
  • Visit Table Mountain - as soon as possible, so as not to miss the trip on account of bad weather. It is highly recommended to purchase the tickets in advance to shorten the wait to get to the top of the mountain
  • Learn about South Africa's past in one of its many museums, at The Castle, on a guided philanthropic visit to the townships or on Robben Island
  • Visit the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront with its many shops, galleries and restaurants
  • Drive along the Cape Peninsula to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope, visiting the penguins at Boulder's Beach en route and admiring stunning views of the ocean from Chapman's Peak Drive
  • Enjoy a bird's eye view onto one of the 5th most beautiful cities in the world from the top of Table Mountain, on a helicopter flight or from the Ferris Wheel at the V&A Waterfront
  • Stroll through one of the many interesting craft and gourmet markets
  • Observe an abundance of marine life in the Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront
  • Enjoy the culinary delights of this cosmopolitan city and the excellent wines on one of the many vineyards in and around Cape Town
  • Stroll through the beautiful and expansive Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens
  • Learn to cook traditional Cape Malay food
  • Take part in a fascinating tour of the operating theatre where Professor Christian Barnard performed the World's first heart transplant
  • Visit the equally interesting Cape Castle, District Six  Museum and Holocaust Museum

Days 4 - 6: Franschhoek

Transfer option:
You will be collected at your hotel, and transferred to Franschhoek.

Self-drive option:
Your next destination is Franschhoek in the Winelands. Rather than driving on the highwy directly to Franschhoek, we recommend that you drive along the beautiful coastal road from Gordon's Bay to Rooiels and onwards via Betty's Bay to Hermanus. Here you can stop for lunch and stretch your legs with a walk along the promenade which hugs the rocky coast line. During whale season from about June until November, look out for the Southern Right Whales, as they splash in the cold Atlantic Ocean. The whales come here to the quieter waters of Walker Bay to have their calves and have changed the face of the sleepy town of Hermanus forever.

Thereafter you will drive through the fertile fruit orchards around Elgin and Grabouw, past the Theewaterkloof Dam and over the winding Franschhoek Pass to the little town of Franschhoek. The "French corner" ist not known only for its wines, but for its many excellent restaurants.

Days 7 - 9: Cape Peninsula

Transfer option:
You will be collected at your hotel and transferred to The Last Word Long Beach.

Self-drive option:
After all the experiences, sights and impressions that you have gathered, there is nothing more relaxing before returning to the fast pace of home than spending a few days at the beach. It is too cold to ever swim in the Atlantic, but long beach walks or reading a book whilst looking over the sea are just as good for the soul. It is not only Long Beach which is an attraction here though. There are vineyards to be explored or more beautiful coastal drives to new destinations that will fill your days.

Day 10: End of Itinerary

Transfer option:
You will be collected at your hotel and transferred to Cape Town's International Airport for your departure flight.

Self-drive option:
Today you will return your car to the depot at Cape Town Airport and continue with your onward journey.
