On safari.
The Lewa Conservancy has dramatic views to the south of snow capped Mt. Kenya, and to the north down to the arid lands of Tassia and Il Ngwesi. It has many diverse habitats from pristine forest, fertile grasslands, extensive springs and acacia woodland.
Registered as a rhino conservancy in 1983, the conservancy is famous for its successful rhino and Grevy zebra breeding, two endangered species; Lewa is home to 10% of Kenya’s rhino, and 20% of the worlds population of Grevy zebra. The whole conservancy is fenced, and the conservancy employs over 150 rangers. The conservancy does extensive outreach work into the surrounding communities with its Community Development Program, including healthcare, education, micro-finance, and water projects – in order to share with the community the benefits of wildlife.

Game viewing in the Masaai Mara.
The Masai Mara is still one of the best game experiences you could hope to have. Aside from the undeniably spectacular prospect of seeing tens of thousands of wildebeest brave the crocodiles as they cross the Mara River en masse, the Mara has a huge variety of general wildlife and among the best chances to get great views of lion, cheetah and even leopard.
The rolling plains and treed thickets are reminiscent of the days of early explorers and many of the small camps retain the same authentic, low-key feel that we like so much. A fairly concentrated wildlife experience, days start early to take advantage of predators on the move, but afternoons are spent lazily in camp before heading out once again in the cool of the evening.

The following activities are also on offer -
Out of Africa picnic
As a nod to the romantic tale that was filmed on the site of Angama Mara, the lodge offers intimate picnics for two on the crest of the Out of Africa kopje that is featured on the movie’s poster. A Maasai naturalist escorts guests up the hill to discover an old-world private picnic scene: checked blankets, comfy cushions, canvas safari chairs, a wicker picnic basket, sparkling wine on ice, coffee in a Stanley flask, elegant picnic food and of course, that view. Picnics can be enjoyed anytime of day: for breakfast soon after sunrise, or with evening sunset drinks as the sun sets behind.
Visit the Shamba
Kiswahili for vegetable garden, the Shamba is a much-loved experience for Angama Mara’s guests. Within easy walking distance of the lodge guests often stop by on their way to or from the Reserve. The shamba keepers welcome guests and encourage them to pick and taste along the way. Guests are free to pick their own ingredients which are then washed and readied for the freshest salads imaginable. Butlers prepare a wicker basket filled with loaves of bread, local cheese and chilled rosé wine to accompany the salads.
Masaai Culture
In the heart of Maasailand, Angama Mara is surrounded by many traditional homestead manyattas that welcome travellers. Here, guests enjoy a rare opportunity of gaining a deeper understanding into the every day lives of the Maasai, their ways, their fascinating culture and what daily challenges they face in maintaining the fine balance between preserving their ancient ways and embracing the new.
Hot air ballooning
The adventure begins just before dawn. Enjoy a cup of coffee while you watch the balloons inflating. Suspended in a basket beneath the rainbow-coloured canopy, you’re off for a wildlife viewing adventure with an entirely different perspective. What amazes most first-time balloonists is the absolute stillness: the silence as you float above the plains, the forest and the rivers of the Masai Mara.
