Timkat in Addis, Historic North and the Omo Valley

Day 1 (15 Jan): Arrival in Addis Ababa, be welcomed, transferred to your hotel, then do an Addis Ababa city tour including the National museum, Holy Trinity Cathedral, and a beautiful view of Addis from Entoto

Day 2 (16 Jan): Fly from Addis to jinka and after check in drive from Jinka to Turmi and en route visit Key Afer Market (Thursday Market) in the late afternoon which is very advisable to see cattle flow and Evangadi dance

Day 3 (17 Jan): Excursion to Omorate and visit Dassanech tribe, ‘people of the Delta’, lives on the northern shore of Lake Turkana. If the day is lucky you will attend a Bull Jumping ceremony

Day 4 (18 Jan): Drive back to Jinka and visit Dimeka market (Tuesday and Saturday Market) afternoon visit the Ari village or you will have a time to visit museum in town

 Day 5 (19 Jan): Early in the morning start your drive to Mago National park to visit the Mursi tribes (women like to wear terra cotta on their enormously stretched lower lips) and later transfer to the airport for your flight back to Addis

Day 6 (20 Jan): Attend the colourful celebration of Timket: Epiphany at Jan Meda

Day 7 (21 Jan): Fly from Addis to Mekele in the morning, then drive to Gheralta, en-route visiting Abraha Wo Atsebeha rock-hewn church or Wukiro Kirkos church

Day 8 (22 Jan): Visit the extraordinary Gheralta rock-hewn churches Mariyam Qorqur or Daneil Church or climb up to Abuna Yemata Guh, then enjoy the scenic landscape in the afternoon

Day 9 (23 Jan): Drive from Gheralta to Axum, en-route visiting the 500 BC temple of Yeha. In the afternoon sightseeing in Axum including the stealefield, Tsion Maryam Church, the ruins of the palace that might have been the Queen of Sheba’s, and the museum.

Day 10 (24 Jan): Drive from Axum to the Simien Mountains National Park with viewpoints of the peaks and the Tekeze River Valley, then explore the park either on foot or in the car as you prefer.

Day 11 (25 Jan): Explore the park, walking or driving as you wish, including an optional trek from Sanqaber to Jinbar Falls, with a high chance of seeing the famous Gelada baboons

Day 12 (26 Jan): Drive from Simien Mountains to Gondar on the way visiting the old Felasha village and afternoon visit the Fasiledes castle and Debere birehan sellase Church

Day 13 (27 Jan): Drive from Gondar to Bahir Dar, en-route visit the Awramba village, then drive to the Blue Nile to visit the mighty Blue Nile

Day 14 (28 Jan): Boat trip at Lake Tana to visit some of the Island Monasteries, then in the afternoon relax at the lodge or visit the market and a view from Bezawit Pala

Day 15 (29 Jan): In the morning, fly from Bahir Dar to Lalibela, then visit the eve of St. Mery Timket (Asteroye Mariyam) and Ethiopian coffee ceremony in the villages of Lalibela

Day 16 (30 Jan): Attend the colourful celebration of St. Mery Timket (Asteroye Mariyam) and visit the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela

Day 17 (31 Jan): Fly from Lalibela to Addis, shopping, farewell dinner and departure
