Arrival in Windhoek

You’ll be picked up at the airport by your tour guide and driven to Windhoek. Your hotel has an outdoor pool and a wellness area, while from the sky bar you have a beautiful panoramic view of the Klein Windhoek district. In the afternoon, you can take a short city tour before enjoying a game roast in the evening.

Drive to the Kalahari semi-desert

Enjoy your first morning in Namibia and indulge in a sumptuous breakfast before driving via Rehoboth and Kalkrand into the Kalahari Desert to Suricate Camp. The small, tented lodge is built on a majestic red dune on the edge of a huge clay pan, from where you can enjoy a wonderful view. At sunset you take a nature tour through the up to 30m high red, longitudinal dunes, in an open-top off-road vehicle, accompanied by the typical flora and fauna of the Kalahari Desert.

Day 3: Fish River Canyon

To the Fish River Canyon

Today you drive through an arid area with many succulents such as quiver trees, whose dead branches were used by the Bushmen as quivers for their arrows. You can take a closer look at this aloe species on the way at the quiver tree forest, while not far away is the "Giant's Playground", where ancient volcanic rock formations transport visitors to a fascinating fantasy world. The bungalows of your destination, Canyon Lodge, built from natural stone, are hidden between huge granite rocks and offer a special overnight atmosphere.

Day 4: Fish River Canyon

Fish River Canyon

You have the whole day to explore the area, with a visit to the Fish River Canyon a must. At about 160 km long, up to 27 km wide in places, and 550 m deep it is considered the second largest canyon in the world. Like a snake, it winds its way through a grey-brown rocky landscape towards the Orange River, the natural border with South Africa. There are many hiking opportunities both at the lodge and along the canyon.

Day 5: Aus

Continue to Aus

The route on to Aus and Klein-Aus Vista, located west of the town at the foot of the Aus mountains, is impressive in its barrenness and loneliness. Built in the style of an old farmhouse, the lodge radiates incredible tranquillity, and the view over the endless expanses of desert is indescribable. In the afternoon, you can visit the famous and fascinating "Wild Horses of Garub", whose origins have been a mystery for decades.

Day 6: Sesriem

Sesriem/Sossusvlei

You drive north along the edge of the Namib Desert, where the unbelievable vastness, isolated inselbergs, and dune landscapes provide one of the most spectacular landscapes in Namibia. Sossusvlei Lodge, your accommodation today, is situated directly in front of the park entrance to Sossusvlei. The bungalows are comfortably furnished and offer a wonderful view of the dunes and the vast plains of the Namib. In the afternoon you can visit the Sesriem Canyon.

Day 7: Sesriem

Early in the morning, you drive to the highest dunes in the world at Sossusvlei. As the sun is still quite low in the morning, the high dunes shimmer golden, yellow and reddish on one side, but are dark and shadowy on the other, making the dune ridge stand out razor-sharp. A short hike through thick sand takes you to Deadvlei, where trees that died a long time ago provide a fascinating vista with their bizarrely shaped trunks and branches. Back at the lodge in the afternoon, you have time to think back on the past few days.

Day 8: Swakopmund

To Swakopmund

You continue north to Solitaire, where you can sample the famous apple pie, before passing through the central Namib Desert. On the way you are sure to see ostriches, and perhaps also springboks, zebras, and oryx antelopes. Your destination is the coastal town of Swakopmund, where you’ll spend the night in a guesthouse overlooking the ocean. The town center with its numerous cafés and restaurants is within walking distance and dinner is served in a restaurant overlooking the sea.

Day 9: Swakopmund

In the morning you take a very interesting boat trip in the Walvis Bay lagoon, where you’ll see seals, dolphins, flamingos, and pelicans. Many activities are possible in the afternoon (optional), including enjoying the beach, visiting the museum, aquarium or crystal gallery, or quad biking in the dunes, etc. A sightseeing flight along the coast can also be booked (all optional).

Day 10: Erongo Mountains

You bid farewell to the sea and drive to the Erongo Mountains, along the way looking north to see the majestic Spitzkoppe, also known as the "Matterhorn of Namibia", which rises 600 meters above the plain. Your lodge is nestled between huge granite boulders in the wildly beautiful landscape at the foot of the Erongo Mountains. From your bungalow you have a magnificent view of the savannah, and you can relax at the pool and enjoy the magnificent panorama. In the afternoon, make sure not to miss the guided sunset walk.

Day 11: Twyfelfontein

Drive via Uis to Twyfelfontein

You drive past the 2,573 m high Brandberg massif to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Twyfelfontein, an Afrikaans name which means "dubious source". The sandstones in the area are the fossilized remains of a primeval desert that covered large areas of present-day Namibia with its masses of sand around 180 million years ago. On a guided tour, you’ll get to visit the world-famous rock engravings.

Twyfelfontein

A very special excursion awaits you today as you take a drive in the lodge's open safari vehicle down the dry riverbed of the Huab and Aba-Huab. Driving between tall camelthorn and ana trees, through the deep river sand, you’ll perhaps be lucky enough to encounter the famous desert elephants on this otherwise very scenic tour.

Day 13: Damaraland

Drive through Damaraland

You continue, via Khorixas, to Damaraland, stopping on the way to visit the "Petrified Forest", a collection of fossilized tree trunks up to 30 m long, which were formed 280 million years ago and later uncovered by erosion. The small and cozy Huab Lodge is located off the beaten track on the banks of the dry Huab River and has its own thermal spring. The bungalows offer a magnificent and private view of the Huab river valley.

Day 14: Etosha South

To Etosha National Park

Today you head to the Etosha National Park, which, at almost 23,000 km2, is one of the largest game reserves in the world and is considered one of the most outstanding game parks in Africa. Your lodge is located just a few kilometers from the park gate. It is built on a hill and offers a beautiful view of the bush savannah. In the afternoon, you can go on our first game drives in the park with our guide.

Day 15: Onguma Game Reserve

Drive through the eastern Etosha National Park

Exciting animal sightings await you today in the Etosha National Park, home to over 110 species of mammals, including elephants, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, twelve different species of antelope, and lions. You have the whole day to visit the various waterholes with our guide before leaving the park in an easterly direction in the evening. The cozy Onguma Bush Camp is just a few kilometers from Etosha and, with its grass-roofed buildings, offers a real "bush feeling".

Day 16: Onguma Game Reserve

You have another chance to enjoy the abundance of animals in Etosha, watching them quenching their thirst at the waterholes. But, you can also choose to relax and enjoy the beautiful camp before sampling the delicacies from the kitchen once again.

Day 17: Okonjima Nature Reserve

Otjiwarongo / Okonjima

You leave the wildlife of the Etosha National Park and drive via Tsumeb to Otjiwarongo today, perhaps stopping on the way to visit Lake Otjikoto, where in 1915 the Germans sank their cannons and weapons while fleeing from the South African forces. You then drive to Okonjima, home of the AfriCat Foundation, where projects with leopards and hyenas are carried out, and will be explained during an afternoon game drive.

Day 18: Greater Windhoek

Day 18

Drive towards Windhoek

Today you drive via Okahandja, where you can visit the local woodcarving market, to a private game reserve just outside Windhoek. You can relax at the pool and reflect on the past few days and, in the afternoon, go on one last game drive where we can see rhinos, eland antelopes, giraffes, kudus, and springboks.

Day 19: End of Itinerary

Departure

Your Namibian safari ends today with a drive to Windhoek and, depending on the time of your departure, a chance for one last stroll through the city before driving to the airport in time for your flight back home.
