Day 1: Windhoek

Upon arrival and Customs Clearing, the namibiaselfdrive.com Representative will be in attendance in the Arrival Hall at Hosea Kutako International Airport (Windhoek International Airport), with your name displayed on a namibiaselfdrive.com notice board. After taking care of your luggage, the Representative will transfer you to your stay for the night. A full briefing on the itinerary and operations of the Travel Key App will be done in Windhoek City.

Day 2: Swakopmund

Excitement starts here: Breakfast is served at the stay-over. The days’ travel is fairly easy-going with asphalt all the way to Swakopmund over 367 kilometres. Roadworks is currently underway between Karibib and Swakopmund.

Swakopmund has a big heart for visitors.

Famous for very good reasons. With a long history of good hospitality and providing entertainment to visitors, this quaint little town located on the shores of the Namibian Atlantic Coast, continues to do just that. Adored by visitors and loved by locals, Swakopmund is the social hub of the Western seaboard.

Cuisine, accommodation, adventure activities, entertainment, shopping and more.

Rich in historical & cultural history, Swakopmund also serve as a half-way stop-over for travellers en route between the Namib Desert in Southern Namibia and Damaraland, Kaokoland and Etosha in the Northern regions of Namibia.

Take a stroll along the walkway on the edge of the beach or spend time in one of the many street café’s – pay a visit to the Moon Landscape or join a marine excursion on one of the charter yachts – participate in one of the mind blowing “Living Desert” tours or simply enjoy the tranquillity of the town while the friendly locals go about their business.

Notice: At around half-way through the day's driving, look out for Wilhelmstal Farm Stall on your right-hand side (Coordinates: Lat -21.91 and Long 16.32) - this is the place where Namibians stock up on Southern Africa's top-rated delicacy, Biltong and Droëwors: a must taste experiences for visitors.

Day 3: Cape Cross

It is time to explore the real Skeleton Coast. After breakfast, the road leads North in the direction of Henties Bay – a little coastal town with an identity crisis: is it a retirement village, fishing village or an emerging coastal hub? Industrial activities just 100 kilometers North East of Henties Bay are now the talk of international developers – ask the locals for more information.

First things first: Ship wrecks are not far away in these unforgiving landscapes – you will encounter a recent wreck along the Skeleton Coast between Swakopmund and Henties Bay.

The venue where the Portuguese Cross have been planted in 1486 and the Seal Colony, will get its’ fair share of attention the next morning.

Expert tips

A brief visit to Namibia’s own “Dead Sea”, serves as a pre-lude to a visit to the lichen fields in the foggy outcrops of the Northern Namib Desert.

Before settling in to your stay over, take that all important drive to the debris fields on the 2-track road between Cape Cross and the Messum Crater.
