Africa House at Royal Malewane caters to the discerning traveller, who wishes to experience a complete safari in luxurious accommodation and pampering at the award winning spa.

Africa House provides the ultimate getaway for those who value privacy, personalized service and the best “Big Five” game viewing Africa has to offer.

Accommodating a maximum of 12 guests in the utmost splendour, this privately owned African Villa is situated on a 30 000 acres reserve in the Greater Kruger region of South Africa. It is best for families (children of all ages are welcome) or for groups travelling together.

The teak internal bedroom doors were sourced in Lamu and the carved four poster beds come from Mombasa. The furnishings can be described as eclectic. Bright coloured silks and leathers have been used and expensive antiques, Persian rugs and objects d’art add to the exotic look of this villa. Handmade linen is used throughout.

The villa has its own game drive vehicle, ranger, tracker, chef, butler and housekeeping staff and has the same services and standards as Royal Malewane. Guests are welcome to make use of the Royal Malewane facilities.

GAME VIEWING

Game viewing is individually tailored, either by open Land Rover or on foot. Our expert and experienced rangers and trackers accompany the guests. All our game rangers are highly trained and qualified and Royal Malewane – Africa House is privileged to have the only surviving Master Tracker currently working in Southern Africa.

It has full use of Royal Malewane’s award winning spa and has received many accolades for its food, and professional and friendly staff.

THE WATERS OF ROYAL MALEWANE - Bush Spa

Completely surrounded by the African bush, The Waters of Royal Malewane Bush Spa is a veritable oasis of calm. With internationally qualified therapists on hand to provide therapeutic treatments, this is the ultimate refuge for those seeking to refresh and restore the mind, body and spirit.

The Waters of Royal Malewane Bush Spa philosophy draws on the healing powers of water. All hydrotherapy treatments make use of mineral-rich water sourced from an underground stream that flows through the reserve. Filtered through limestone and granite, these are the waters after which this incomparable Bush Spa is named. Positioned around the central courtyard are the beautifully appointed treatment rooms, as well as a fully equipped gymnasium, a steam room, hot and cold African baths and bush casitas where guests can enjoy the treatment of their choice.

Royal Malewane which Africa House is part of, is situated on a private reserve within the greater Kruger National Park Area of South Africa. 13 000 hectares (30 000 Acres) provide a balance of spectacular game and wildlife viewing, extensive flora and never-ending African skies.

AMENITIES

Royal Malewane encompassing Africa House is internationally renowned for providing the pinnacle of luxury game viewing in all of Africa . Now this regal getaway is also home to one of the most exclusive Spas on the continent.

Completely surrounded by the untamed African bush, The Waters of Royal Malewane Bush Spa is a veritable oasis of calm. With internationally qualified therapists on hand to provide therapeutic massage, luxurious body treatments and hydrotherapy, this is the ultimate refuge for those seeking to refresh and restore the mind, body and spirit.

Further insight in to Africa House is a Villa that Liz and Phil Biden, the owners of Royal Malewane, have built for their private use in the African Bushveld. It is a five minute walk, or a two minute drive from Royal Malewane. One enters Africa House’s central courtyard with its water feature, casitas and covered varandah through a 4.8 meter tall double North African front door. From there one goes through to a generous living and dining area on to another covered veranda with outside living and dining areas. Here one can relax on African day beds and cool off in an infinity pool that overhangs a pristine riverine system where game abounds.

Lunch will then be served, yet another scrumptious meal followed by time to relax in the lodge or make use of the spa before the afternoon safari ( game drive).

High tea is offered just before the afternoon game drive. The game drive will run into the evening after sunset, which offers an opportunity to see nocturnal animal species such as the ant bear, pangolin, various owl species, bush babies and brown hyenas. The game tracker who sits on the front of the vehicle during the game drives will manage a spot light.

Depending upon the weather, the lodge will provide special “bush dinners” and boma dinners, where Guests are driven to either a dry riverbed or under the African sky on an open plain. Lit only by paraffin lamps and a big open campfire, this dining experience makes for one of the most unforgettable memories of a visit to Africa. Listen to the night sounds and enjoy a delicious meal cooked on the open-coals of the bush fire.

Day 2

Thornybush Game Reserve

Day notes

The general daily program at all game lodges offers time to really unwind and relax in luxury and comfort while still offering the excitement of being deep in the bush surrounded by game.

The general activities run along the following lines, but please be aware that since you have exclusive use of the vehicle, you can decide what time you would like to leave the lodge in the mornings, the afternoons, what times you would like to come back…and all of this can be arranged sporadically on the spot depending on how you feel:

An early morning wake up call before dawn, a quick cup of coffee and some fruit or a biscuit followed by a 3 to 4 hour game drive where you have the chance to spot not only the Big 5, but also a wide variety of other game species.

You will then return to the lodge for an awesome display of tasty dishes for breakfast and then have time to relax.

Enjoy the sun at the pools edge, make use the health spa and enjoy a full body massage, sleep in comfort of your luxury room, or on a hammock over looking the river.

You also have the option of a bush walk with a qualified game ranger, a highly recommended activity. The times of these walks will differ depending on the time of the year and the heat of the day.

The order of the day is usually:

Early morning game drive followed by a leisurely breakfast.

Thereafter, guests can enjoy the luxury of the camp until lunch.

Afternoon game drives include sundowners and culminate in a night drive.

Dinner is served under the African sky or with silver & crystal in the dining areas.

At Africa House they will try to tailor each day according to guests’ wishes and so we are flexible with all activity times. However, due to the climate, we suggest that the following times are followed as closely as possible, in order to maximise game-viewing opportunities and ensure that guests enjoy a comfortable experience.
