3 DAY PANGOLIN VOYAGER

DAY 1: ARRIVAL AY KASANE AIRPORT IN BOTSWANA

PLEASE NOTE THIS IMPORTANT TRAVEL INFORMATION:

• Make sure that you get your passport stamped at the airport when you enter Botswana
• You’ll then be met by a representative at the airport who will help with your luggage and transfer you to the Kasane Immigration Office (KIO) in an air-conditioned vehicle
• Guests to ensure they are compliant with Namibian visa requirements.

You will be able to jump on board the Pangolin Voyager Houseboat from Kasane waterfront immigration. Your transfer boat will collect you and take you through to Impalila Island for Namibia immigration formalities.

You’ll then have the opportunity to overview the area as you cruise to the Pangolin Voyager. The Pangolin Voyager cruises its way through the wonderful Chobe waterways but settles itself in the town of Kasane in Botswana’s north-eastern region. The boat generally moves every second day in the Kasai Channel as well as Kasika and Serondela within Chobe National Park.

DAY 2: PANGOLIN VOYAGER

Arguably one of the top game viewing destinations in Africa, the Chobe floodplain ecosystem offers passengers a rich and varied game viewing experience from the river. Apart from the huge elephant herds which the Chobe is renowned for, guests will be rewarded with sights of large concentrations of buffalo, hippo, and several antelope species. Predators like lions, leopards, and wild dogs regularly make an appearance on the Chobe riverfront.

The Pangolin Voyager guides have lived in the area all their lives and know the river and its residents intimately. they are very adept and locating and positioning for amazing sightings. Should there be anything, in particular, you want to see the guides will make it their mission to get you that sighting. they love a challenge!

Each morning and afternoon the 8-seater boat will head out to explore the Chobe River for game viewing and photography. Generally, each of these activities lasts between three and four hours depending on what we encounter. The Chobe River is one of the easiest places in Africa to see large herds of elephants as they come down to the river to drink. If you are lucky you might even get to see them swimming across the river – always a very special sighting.

Along with the elephants, there are plenty of other large mammals like Hippo and Buffalo along with very relaxed crocodiles sunning themselves on the banks. there are plenty of antelope species including Red Lechwe, Puku, Giraffe, and on occasion Sable.

As to the predators we often have sightings of lions and wild dogs on the open plains and once in a while at a certain spot we have leopard. The houseboat works very well with destinations in The Okavango Delta where there is a higher density of predators.

In the mornings we will take a “hot box” with us containing tea, coffee, water and some snacks. In the afternoon your guide will pack a “cool box” with drinks of your choice.

If you have a camera with a telephoto lens and a lens collar, please ask your guide for a base plate so that you can utilize the gimbals on the seat. If you would rather not have the gimbal and you just want to enjoy the scenery this can be removed from your seat with ease to give you a bit more room to get comfy.

Due to the diverse array of habitats, the Chobe certainly qualifies as an important birding area. Renowned birder Warwick Tarboten has compiled a list of over 390 bird species that can be seen from the boats alone. This does not include those that can be seen away from the river.

This list includes 14 birds that are of exceptional interest: Slaty egret, Western Banded Snake Eagle, Rock Pratincole, African Skimmer, Schalow’s Turaco, Coppery tailed Coucal, Pel’s Fishing Owl, Greater Swamp Warbler, Chirping Cisticola, Luapula Cisticola, Shelley’s Sunbird, Northern Grey-headed Sparrow, Brown Firefinch, and the Broad-tailed Paradise Whydah.

The Chobe River has one of the highest densities of Fish Eagles in Africa along with other iconic migratory species such as African Skimmers and Carmin Bee-Eaters.

The guides are themselves exceptional birders and very happy to help seek out specific species that you may want to view. The first quarter of the year is especially good for birding as the Summer migrants arrive.

DAY 3: DEPARTURE DAY

Enjoy a morning cruise during breakfast as you do your last bit of animal spotting and take some memorable pictures. Bid our crew a reluctant farewell and then make your way via tender boat to the Namibian Immigration Office.

Once you’ve had your documents stamped you’ll be transferred via tender boat to the Kasane Immigration Office, where you’ll have your documents stamped once again before entering Botswana.
