You arrive at Manas Airport in Bishkek around 9:00 AM, where your guide and driver will warmly welcome you. From here, your adventure begins!
Discover the Beauty of Ala-Archa
A short drive brings you to the stunning Ala-Archa National Park, located just 40 kilometers from the city. This picturesque gorge, surrounded by towering peaks, offers the perfect start to your journey. You can choose to take a relaxing walk along the river or, if you’re up for a challenge, hike to the waterfall.
The hike takes around 4-5 hours round trip, with an elevation gain of 600 meters, leading you to the waterfall at an altitude of 2,600 meters above sea level. Along the way, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the rugged mountain landscape.
City Tour of Bishkek
In the afternoon, we explore Bishkek, a city full of charm and contrasts. Walk through Ala-Too Square, the city’s heart, where you can visit the impressive Manas Monument, dedicated to the hero of the world’s largest epic poem. If time permits, you might even witness the changing of the guard.
Marvel at the unique mix of Soviet-era architecture, modern buildings, and lush green parks, offering plenty of space to relax and soak in the local atmosphere.
Relax and Recharge
After the city tour, you’ll check in to your hotel for some well-deserved rest. The evening is yours to enjoy – take a stroll, explore nearby shops, or simply unwind and reflect on your first day in Kirgizia.

Journey to Issyk-Kul Lake: History, Culture, and Natural Beauty
Today, we set off towards the stunning Issyk-Kul Lake, situated at an altitude of 1,609 meters above sea level. Known as the second-largest high-altitude lake in the world, Issyk-Kul is a true natural wonder, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and offering crystal-clear waters that never freeze.
Step Back in Time at the Burana Tower
On the way, we stop near the town of Tokmok to explore the Burana Tower, a fascinating remnant of the ancient city of Balasagun. This city flourished during the peak of the Great Silk Road and served as one of the capitals of the Karakhanid state in the 10th-12th centuries.
Climb to the top of the tower for panoramic views of the surrounding valley, and take a closer look at the Balbal, ancient stone tombstones carved into human-like shapes, scattered across the site. These remnants offer a glimpse into the rich history and culture of the region.
A Taste of Local Life
After the excursion, we’ll enjoy a traditional lunch with a local family, where you’ll experience the warmth of Kyrgyz hospitality and sample authentic homemade dishes.
Arrival at Issyk-Kul Lake
We continue our journey to Issyk-Kul Lake, where you’ll spend the night surrounded by breathtaking views. Take time to relax and soak in the peaceful atmosphere of this iconic alpine lake, the perfect ending to a day filled with history, culture, and natural beauty.

From Issyk-Kul to Karakol: Ancient Petroglyphs and Mountain Beauty
After breakfast, we depart for the city of Karakol, a charming town at the eastern edge of Issyk-Kul Lake.
Explore the Stone Garden of Cholpon-Ata
On the way, we stop at the Stone Garden, also known as the Cholpon-Ata Petroglyphs. This fascinating open-air temple dates back to the time of the Scythians and Huns, with carvings from as early as the 9th-8th centuries BC to the 3rd-4th centuries AD. Walk among ancient stones etched with scenes of hunting, animals, and rituals, offering a glimpse into the spiritual lives of these early civilizations.
Breathtaking Nature in Grigorievskoe Gorge
Next, we continue to the stunning Grigorievskoe Gorge (also known as Chon Ak-Suu), located at 1,600 meters above sea level. Here, a peaceful walk awaits along the river, covering up to 2 kilometers with a slight elevation change of +150/-150 meters. The gorge’s vast open spaces, dramatic mountains, and serene landscapes provide the perfect backdrop for relaxation and photography.
Arrival in Karakol
In the late afternoon, we arrive in the city of Karakol and check in at the hotel. Take the evening to unwind and enjoy the local atmosphere as you prepare for more adventures ahead.

Today, lunch is flexible, allowing you to choose what suits you best:
Picnic Option: Before heading to Grigoriev Gorge, you can stop to buy food and enjoy a relaxing picnic amidst the stunning natural surroundings of the gorge. This option lets you savour your meal with breathtaking views of the mountains and river.

Local Café Option: You can decide to have lunch at a local café. Your guide will recommend delicious national dishes to try or assist by translating the menu into English.
Grigorievskoe gorge (Chon Ak-Suu 1600 m above sea level)

Altyn-Arashan Gorge: Golden Springs and Cultural Gems in Karakol
Today, we set off for the breathtaking Altyn-Arashan Gorge, which translates to “golden spring” in Kyrgyz. To reach this incredible spot, we’ll travel in rugged Soviet UAZ vehicles, perfectly suited for the mountainous terrain.
Discover the Gorge and Soak in Hot Springs
The Altyn-Arashan Gorge is one of Kyrgyzstan’s most popular natural destinations, famed for its stunning beauty, vast spruce forests, and therapeutic hot springs. Located at an altitude of 2,600 meters, these natural springs contain radon and hydrogen sulfide, believed to have healing properties.
The journey through the gorge covers around 13 kilometers, with an altitude difference from 1,950 to 2,650 meters above sea level. You can enjoy a peaceful walk to the end of the gorge, where you’ll have time to soak in the hot springs, marvel at the spectacular mountain views, and simply relax amidst unspoiled nature.
Return to Karakol: A Touch of Culture
After returning to Karakol, we explore the city’s rich cultural heritage (or, if we spend more time in the gorge, this tour can move to the next morning). Highlights include:
- The Dungan Mosque, a stunning Chinese-style building constructed entirely without nails, used as a place of worship by the local Muslim community.
- The Holy Trinity Cathedral, an old Russian Orthodox church made entirely of wood, showcasing intricate craftsmanship and historical significance.
Dinner with Local Flavors
We end the day with a delicious dinner at a local restaurant, where you’ll get to taste traditional Kyrgyz dishes, full of rich flavors and authentic ingredients. A perfect conclusion to a day of adventure, nature, and culture.
Alternative Option: Karakol Gorge
If Altyn-Arashan Gorge feels too challenging, we can instead explore the beautiful Karakol Gorge, located just 10 kilometers from the city of Karakol. This option offers a scenic and more manageable hike along a rushing mountain river, surrounded by dramatic peaks and lush greenery.
The walk through the gorge covers approximately 10 kilometers one way, with a gentler altitude gain of 450 meters (compared to 650 meters in Altyn-Arashan). The route follows an unpaved road, where you may occasionally encounter passing vehicles, but the natural beauty and the sound of the river make it a peaceful and rewarding experience.
Both options promise stunning landscapes—whether you choose Altyn-Arashan or the Karakol Gorge, the day will be filled with fresh mountain air and unforgettable views.

Known as the "Seven Bulls", the gorge is famous for its reddish sandstone formations, which resemble a row of mighty bulls, and its lush Tien Shan coniferous forests. Enjoy a walk through the gorge to admire the iconic "Broken Heart" and "Seven Bulls" rock formations, two of the most photographed landmarks in Kyrgyzstan. Take time to soak in the serene beauty of this unique landscape during a leisurely stroll.
Barskoon Gorge and Waterfalls
Next, we journey to the nearby Barskoon Gorge, a favorite destination of Yuri Gagarin during his visit to Kyrgyzstan. The gorge offers two breathtaking waterfall hikes:
- A short, easy walk of 250 meters to the "Bowl of Manas" Waterfall, perfect for a quick dose of natural beauty.

Drive Through the Gorge
Enjoy a scenic 5-kilometer drive along a stormy mountain river, winding deeper into the gorge. The route is surrounded by towering Tien Shan fir trees, often called the “lungs of Central Asia” for their fresh and rejuvenating air.
Hike to Girl’s Braids Waterfall
At the end of the gorge, embark on a 2-kilometer hike along a mountain path to the picturesque Girl’s Braids Waterfall. The trail involves an altitude gain of 400 meters but rewards you with the serene beauty of cascading water surrounded by lush greenery.

Midday: Kochkor – Local Culture and Lunch
On the way to Son-Kul, we visit the town of Kochkor, where you’ll enjoy a traditional lunch with a local Kyrgyz family. Here, you’ll also witness the intricate process of making a Kyrgyz felt carpet, or “shyrdak”, a vibrant and meaningful craft that reflects Kyrgyz culture and artistry.
Afternoon: Arrival at Son-Kul Lake
The journey continues as we ascend to Son-Kul Lake, sitting at an altitude of 3,016 meters above sea level. We’ll drive through the breathtaking Kalmak Ashuu Pass (3,436 meters), offering spectacular panoramic mountain views. Upon arrival, settle into your accommodation and enjoy light hikes or walks along the peaceful shore of the lake.
Evening: Kyrgyz Nomadic Life and Starry Skies
Visit nearby Kyrgyz yurts to meet locals who still lead a traditional nomadic lifestyle and learn about their way of life. Overnight at the Yurt Camp
Tonight, you’ll stay at a traditional yurt camp near Son-Kul Lake. As in most yurt camps, there is a shared common kitchen where meals are prepared and enjoyed together, offering a warm and communal atmosphere.
For those seeking relaxation after a day of exploration, one of the yurt camps offers a Russian bath (banya) complete with a steam room—a perfect way to unwind and experience a unique local tradition.
Please note that there are no showers available in these camps, so in order to wash off the dust and sweat take a dip in the lake or use the banya. The stunning scenery and the simplicity of nomadic life make this an authentic and memorable experience.

Midday: Naryn City and Cultural Highlights
Our route takes us through the city of Naryn, where we’ll stop to admire an unusual mosque designed in the national Kyrgyz style. This architectural gem reflects the region’s cultural and artistic heritage, offering a unique perspective on local traditions.
Afternoon: Caravanserai Tash-Rabat
Next, we head to the breathtaking Tash-Rabat Caravanserai, nestled in a picturesque gorge at an altitude of 3,200 meters. Dating back to the 13th-14th centuries, this historic structure served as a resting place for Silk Road travelers and may have also been a monastery.
Explore the intricately constructed stone building and its surroundings, learning about its rich history and the role it played in Kyrgyzstan's past. The striking location, combined with the caravanserai’s ancient architecture, makes this visit both awe-inspiring and educational.
Evening: Yurt Camp Experience

Return to Bishkek: Markets and Farewell Celebrations

Today, we embark on a scenic 400-kilometer drive back to Bishkek, taking in the ever-changing landscapes of Kyrgyzstan along the way.
Afternoon: Explore Osh Bazaar
Upon arrival in Bishkek, we visit the bustling Osh Bazaar, one of the city's most vibrant and authentic marketplaces (closed on Mondays). Here, you’ll find an array of goods, from dried fruits and fresh vegetables to clothing, spices, and household items. Immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere, where the sights, sounds, and aromas create a quintessentially eastern market experience.
Evening: Farewell Dinner with Folklore Show
We end the journey with a special farewell dinner, accompanied by a folklore show. Talented local musicians will perform traditional Kyrgyz music on national instruments, providing a memorable and authentic conclusion to your Kyrgyz adventure.
