The day will be spent exploring Samburu National Reserve through both morning and afternoon game drives. Although it may not be as well-known as other national parks, the reserve is teaming with life as it sits next to the Ewaso Nyiro River, attracting wildlife from the surrounding savannah plains. The reserve boasts a diverse array of rare northern specialist species, including the Grevy's zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, and beisa oryx (known as the Samburu Special Five), as well as elephants and large predators such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Visitors may even catch sight of the famous "Kamunyak," the lioness who miraculously adopted a baby oryx and lived in the reserve. The area is also a popular spot for observing wild dogs, and boasts over 450 recorded bird species. Accommodations and meals will be provided at the lodge or camp.
