Day 1: Cape Town

Welcome to Cape Town!

On arrival into Cape Town, you will collect your rental car and make your way to The Glen Apartments, which will be your base for the next 5 days. There are a variety of restaurants located on the beachfront, a 5-minute walk from your apartment. There is also a supermarket should you wish to buy the basics.

The rest of the day is yours to enjoy.


Head on down to the V&A Waterfront for some shopping or take a family bike ride along the Sea Point Promenade.

Day 2: Cape Town

No holiday to Cape Town is complete without a trip up Table Mountain. You will ride a rotating cable car to 1067m above sea level where you will get to enjoy spectacular views of the city, it's mountains and beaches. There are several pathways which lead to lookout points. Enjoy an incredible sunset before you descend back down to the city.

Tickets can be arranged in advance to beat the queue.

Table Mountain can have four seasons in one day so please make sure you have some warm clothing and water handy.

Day 3: Cape Town

Today you may wish to spend the day exploring the V&A Waterfront. Visit the Aquarium or take a boat cruise to Robben island. Alternatively you may wish to take the topless red bus tour which leaves from the V&A Waterfront. This 2-3 hour hop-on-hop-off trip is an excellent way to explore the many sights in and around Cape Town.

After your return, depending on the ages of the children, you could end your day on a fun sunset boat cruise on the Pirate Ship.

You are spoilt for choice when it comes to restaurants and you will easily be able to find a casual relaxed spot to dine if you so wish.

Day 4: Cape Town

Today you may like to do a self-drive Cape Peninsula tour.

Head out along the Atlantic Seaboard and enjoy the spectacular scenery as you drive the windy road of Chapman's Peak, affectionately known as "Chappies" . You may be lucky and see some whales. There are many restaurants along the way, but a good stop if you have small kids, is Noordhoek Village. Enjoy brunch or lunch before you carry on towards Cape Point. If time permits, en-route back you could stop at Groot Constantia wine estate for tea and scones or a wine tasting.

Alternatively you could visit Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and enjoy a picnic while your kids play in the running streams. Explore the "Boomslang", a treetop canopy walkway offering stunning views of your natural surroundings, which include Table Mountain.

Another popular family day out is a visit to Bouders Beach to see the Jackass Penguins. En-route stop in the quaint little town of Kalk Bay and stroll the main road lined with eateries and galleries. Olympia Café is a popular bakery and has been around for years. Harbour House and the Brass Bell are great for lunch or if you just fancy an ice-cream visit the Ice Café.

En-route back you may like to pop in at Steenberg Wine Estate or Groot Constantia for a wine tasting.

Camps Bay or Llandudno are both very popular beaches for families to enjoy some beach time.

Equally if you are looking for a secluded beach, often sheltered when the wind is blowing, head on down to Clifton.

Day 5: Cape Town

Your last day in Cape Town!


For a different view of the Cape Peninsula you may like to treat the family to a scenic helicopter flight.

These trips vary from 15 mins to 45 minutes and leave from the V&A Waterfront.

Expert tips

A popular scenic restaurant for your last dinner in cape Town could be at The Bungalow near Camps Bay or perhaps Zenzero on the Camps Bay strip.

Day 6: Franschhoek

Today you will check out of The Glen Apartments and self drive to Boschendal Wine Estate, which is about an hours' drive.

After checking in you may like spend the rest of the day exploring the estate and enjoying the many activities on offer, such as a mountain biking, horse and carriage rides, wine tastings and cellar tours. The gardens are magnificent and are well worth exploring.


A quick 15-minute drive away is the town of Franschhoek. Take a stroll along the main road and browse the many craft shops and galleries. For those with a sweet tooth, Huguenot Fine Chocolates, offers a 30 minute chocolate tour which is quite fun too.

Day 7: Franschhoek

The Franschhoek Wine Tram hop-on hop-off tour is one of the best ways to discover the Franschhoek Valley – picturesque vineyards, breath-taking scenery, warm hospitality, world-class cuisine, fine wines and a 300 year history are what you can expect to find.

Day 8: Knysna

Today you will check out of your accommodation at Boschendal and self drive to Knysna - this is a 5-hour drive. We recommend taking the Clarence scenic route as this offers spectacular views and many photographic opportunities.

A good stop along the way is at Dassiesfontein.

The Rex Hotel in Knysna will be your base for the next 3 nights. It is conveniently located within walking distance of the Knysna Waterfront.

Day 9: Knysna

Today we suggest exploring Knysna. Visit the Knysna Heads by car or take a boat trip. From the viewpoint you may be lucky enough to spot a Southern Right Whale.


The iconic John Benn is ideal way to enjoy a perfect sunset upon the Knysna lagoon. The double-decker floating restaurant is made of wood and has that classic and old-worldly feel about it. Trips to the Heads are made available daily - this is really an activity for the whole family.


Take a trip to the Millwood Goldmine. An integral part of Knysna’s history, the Goldmine was established in 1858 when a gold nugget was found in Jubilee Creek (originally called the KarataraRiver). There are tours available on request and Mother Holly’s Tearoom will be sure to keep your hunger at bay with some delicious treats.


The Woodville Big Tree is an impressive 800 years old and 33 m tall. This massive yellowwood stands proud and silent in the Hoekwil Forest. There are also several streams which children can splash in and a 2km circular trail which leads you to the Big Tree and back.

Day 10: Knysna

Treat yourself today to close encounters with wildlife by visiting the Elephant Sanctuary, Monkey Land and Birds of Eden. For a truly magical experience visit Tenikwe Wildlife Centre and walk alongside a cheetah.

Day 11: Ghana

Today you will drive back along the Garden Route towards Mossel Bay, where you will arrive at Gondwana Safari Lodge, your base for the next 3 nights.

Arrive around noon in time for lunch and get settled before your late afternoon game drive.

Day 14: End of Itinerary

Today you will check out of Gondwana Game Lodge and self drive back to Cape Town.

Your drive will take between 4-5 hours. Upon arrival in Cape Town you will return your rental car at Cape Town International Airport.
