Guests can experience the diversity of our reserve safely on foot as a relaxed and informative activity – the duration and distance of the walks can be tailored to suit your individual walking preference, but generally last for 2 hours.
Fugitives’ Drift has an extensive network of trails, suitable for mountain bikes and e-bikes. Enjoy seeing our wildlife, taking in the stunning views, and breathing in the clean air of the South African veld. Some of our routes also take you through some old Zulu cattle Kraals, so you can soak up some of the histories of the area at the same time. (bikes & helmets not provided, please bring your own)

Makakatana Bay Lodge offers adventure travel holidays daily. Don’t believe us? Just last month a crocodile took a reedbuck as it came down to drink, while an opportunistic hyena followed in hot pursuit. Thinking he’d get a free meal, the hyena leant in to grab the reedbuck, but the croc had other plans and swapped his meal for the hyena instead – all while our guests watched on at the Makakatana Pan.
The iSimangaliso Wetland Park promises plenty of heart-racing moments like these, along with the surrounding beaches giving you an opportunity to experience the thrill of the Indian Ocean while riding its waves or swimming underneath them.
