Expert tips

Expert Tips

  • Stellenbosch is one of South Africa’s most walkable towns, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended for exploring the historic center.
  • Many of the town’s best cafés, wine bars, galleries, and boutiques are located within a few blocks of Dorp Street and Church Street.
  • If you’d like to enjoy a wine tasting without needing transportation, several tasting rooms are conveniently located within town and can easily be visited on foot.
  • Stellenbosch is known for its excellent dining scene. Consider making dinner reservations in advance, especially if traveling during weekends or peak season.
  • Keep an eye out for the town’s beautiful Cape Dutch architecture and centuries-old oak trees, which contribute to the unique character and charm of the region.
  • The evenings can be cooler than Cape Town, particularly during South Africa’s winter months, so bringing a light jacket is recommended for dinner and evening strolls.
