Day 1: Moremi Game Reserve

“Dumela / Hello! And welcome to Botswana!”

Once you have landed in Maun, an Africa Geographic representative will meet you at the arrivals hall of Maun Airport – he will be holding a name board with your names displayed. Arrivals from Johannesburg generally land in Maun at about midday. Other participants already in Botswana will need to gather at the airport in Maun, and once the entire group is present the tour will commence. Departure time is usually at about 13h00, and everyone will be notified prior to the start of this tour, where and when they are expected to meet with the rest of the group.

You will be provided with a snack pack before you are handed over to our pilot, who will whisk you away on a light aircraft for a 30min flight over the Okavango Delta. This flight promises to deliver an unforgettable eagle’s eye view of the Delta. Before you know it you will be descending and landing in Moremi Game Reserve, having saved yourself three to four hours of dirt and dust, and earned a bank full of aerial memories you will never forget. As soon as you emerge from your aircraft, our ground team will be there to collect you and take you to your mobile tented camp – all the while enjoying some game viewing en route to the camp.

Arrival at your camp will likely be before sunset and in good time for a chilled sundowner while you put your feet up around the fire and begin the process of ridding your body of stress and soaking up the scents and sounds of Africa. Your bags will be offloaded and stashed in your tent while your delicious dinner is cooked over an open fire and your guide delivers an essential camp safety briefing and explains your safari program. Remember that your camp is not fenced, and dangerous wildlife may walk through camp at any time of day or night.

Day 2: Moremi Game Reserve

Your day will be spent exploring the Xaxanaka/3rd Bridge areas of Moremi in your game drive vehicle, during the cool mornings and afternoons.

Whilst on game drives your guide will use his experience, keen eyesight and understanding of the area to target and show you as much as he can. He will be on the lookout for all of the species mentioned above, but of course, most people want to see lions, leopards, elephants, wild dogs, cheetahs, hyenas and honey badgers. It is important to appreciate that sightings cannot be guaranteed, as wildlife movements are subject to many influences, and there is always a degree of luck in successful wildlife sightings.

During the heat of the day, you will be back at camp to enjoy a light lunch, a siesta, or downtime to download and edit your images or read your book. As soon as the heat starts to die down you will head out for an afternoon game drive. Expect to be back in the early evening after your sundowner, and to a welcoming campfire, a delicious meal and a night sky packed with stars.

Please note: Depending on water levels (safety reasons) we also reserve the right to swap a mekoro for a motorboat excursion.

Day 3: Khwai Conservancy

Shortly after breakfast, you will head out for a full day in the bush while the team takes down and relocates your private camp from Moremi to the Khwai/east Moremi area of the Okavango Delta. Your transfer will be a slow and enjoyable game viewing drive with a stop en-route to enjoy a picnic lunch.

You will spend the next three nights at your campsite in Khwai, exploring the floodplains and riverine woodlands on game drives both during the day and at night. You will also experience a mokoro (traditional canoe) outing, exploring the Khwai River channels – the easternmost reach of the Okavango river system.

Game drives after dark are with the aid of a spotlight, allowing you to see some of the nocturnal animals that are rarely encountered during the day. Please note that night drives are not permitted within the national parks and reserves. These activities are conducted outside the boundaries of the Moremi Game Reserve, in the Khwai community area only.

Day 4: Khwai Conservancy

These days will be spent exploring the Khwai area on game drives during the cool mornings and afternoons, and on the mokoro outing which will be scheduled for one of these days. Again your guide will use all of his skills and experience to show you as much as he can of the local wildlife species, and what you see is subject to wildlife movements.

During the heat of the day you will again spend time in camp and your time after the afternoon and evening game drive is spent around the fire.

Expect to be in Maun at about noon, in time to check-in for your departure flight, or for you other arrangements.
