Day 1: Musanze

Welcome to Kigali, Rwanda. Our tour representative and your driver/guide will meet you at Kigali International Airport.

Here we warmly welcome you at Kigali International arrivals and transfer you to Kigali's best cafe, Question Coffee Cafe for a tour briefing followed by a super interesting Coffee Masterclass from the experts.  Rwanda has some of the world's highest grade Arabica coffee and Question Coffee are the experts who support many local women's coops to much greater success.

After the coffee master class and caffeine pick up we head off on the 2.5 hours scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park in the north of Rwanda. En route you will discover why Rwanda is called The Land of a Thousand Hills as the drive is very scenic.

On arrival and if the weather cooperates you will travel through the city of Musanze and then arrive at your lodge with great views of the Peaks of Volcanoes National Park.

Check in with  lunch, a freshen up and relax in the grounds of your lodge before we take an afternoon tour to Ibyiwacu Cultural Village.

The village is fascinating with a variety of cultural experiences it can offer, and probably the best way to get to know the local people, their culture, and their ‘ways of living” is to take part in daily life activities. Agricultural tourism will be part of the wider experience where guests will join local people when they go to their agricultural fields to work and learn about their work, harvest and participate in food preparation and making processes like millet grinding using stones, carrying potatoes and water on their heads, and attend lessons and participate in preparing a local dish i.e. (Ubugari, Igikoma etc)

The wider part of experience is IGITARAMO, where all gather around camp fire, with drums and local dances before sunset, where stories, riddles are recounted by storytellers of the old Rwanda with everyone seated around the fire.

Every evening the village members gather around a campfire and begin a session of storytelling and dancing. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight

This is considered one of the great natural animals encounters on the planet.

After an early breakfast, we leave the lodge around 6:30 am and take you to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters where you will be briefed by the park rangers, educated on the trek, Gorilla behavior, and assigned into groups of suitable fitness.

Then set off for your Mountain Gorilla tracking. This experience of gorilla tracking is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. The rangers will lead you deep into the forest in search of the Gorillas. You will move up and down the rugged terrain until you finally meet these harmonious creatures that will entertain you with performances for about 1 hour once you find them.

The activity in Rwanda can take 3-5 hours since the gorillas move up and down but any tiredness will soon disappear as you experience one of the world's great natural animal encounters.

After the trek return to your lodge for a freshen up and check out.  Your departing flight doesn’t leave until the evening so now we will transfer to Kigali and use our remaining time to experience the culture and coffee of Rwanda.  We will take a packed lunch to have on the return journey to Kigali.
