Day 1: Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)

On arrival at the airport, check through customs, immigration and baggage collection before walking through to the arrivals hall where  you will be met by your guide who will accompany you for the duration as your driver and local chapperone.   Transfer to the hotel  where you will check in for four nights.

Later this afternoon you will be collected for your transfer to the jetty site and board the Malachite for a leisurely sunset dinner cruise on the waters of the Zambezi River above the Victoria Falls.  This is a welcome like no other - whilst sipping on a cold G&T watching the sun set  as it turns the spray pink and the afterglow of colours paint the horizon in a hue of deep colours that embrace the evening sky.  Whilst enjoying a full 3 course dinner and fine wine, cruise upriver until the sky is a blanket of stars.

Return to the hotel around 9pm and retire for the evening.

Day 3: Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)

Victoria Falls Anti Poaching Unit - Spend the day with one of their scouts and learn more about what they do and their plight with sustainable tourism, conservation and protection of the envrionment in mind.  An option is to start with a half day walking safari which will include a beautiful lunch on the banks of the river, followed by an afternoon game drive ending at a waterhole where you sit in the Siduli hide as the sunsets.  During the day you will be educated on everything that VFAPU does and you will be left feeling very humbled and greatful to the scouts who put their voluntary time and efforts into protecting our environment and wildlife.

Surrounded by the Victoria Falls National Park, the town of Victoria Falls is located in one of the most beautiful environments on earth, with unspoiled expanses of wilderness, abundant wildlife and spectacular settings, drawing tourists from around the world.

However, the beauty of the location comes with some heavy burdens of human and animal conflict. VFAPU tries to ease some of the burdens by protecting the wildlife and habitat from poacher pressure (subsistence and commercial), as well rescuing and rehabilitating animals injured by human interference. Additionally, we do all we can to train ex-poachers in new skills so they find alternative avenues of revenue creation to give them a sustainable income without doing harm to flora and fauna. Education is also important, and VFAPU and its partners try to reach children at an early age through school and community awareness programs.

Return to the hotel and have dinner at leisure -  meal and drinks are an extra cost

Day 4: Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)

After breakfast today, you will get to spend the day on a volunteer programme at a local school.  Children in the Wilderness is a non-profit organisation supported by ecotourism company Wilderness Safaris, which aims to facilitate sustainable conservation through leadership development and education of children in Africa.

One of our favourite programmes is for guests to spend a morning at Jabulani school where they get to interact with the kids and partake in different activities from reading and literacy programmes,  painting, planting trees, building projects, paper making, or simply  playing a game of soccer.

After the volunteering morning activities, guests will be taken to a local urban home in the high density Chinotimba  township where they will be hosted by  a family and eat their local food, normally the staple diet of the average Zimbabwean person.  This is a very humble and fulfilling activity, which will leave you feeling very greatful and pensive about what a priviledge is really worth in life.

This afternoon you can opt to go on a village cultural tour or return to the hotel and spend the afternoon at leisure to enjoy some pool side leisurely time or go shopping or book extra optional tours.

Dinner at leisure - meal and drinks are an extra cost.
