Arrival in Windhoek

You’ll be picked up at the airport and driven to Windhoek, where you pick up your rental car. With your guesthouse located in the quiet Avis district on the eastern outskirts of Windhoek, you can recover from the long flight and refresh yourselves in the swimming pool. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the city.

Day 2: Waterberg Plateau National Park

Today takes you to the natural paradise and unique vegetation of the Waterberg near the town of Otjiwarongo. The area is known for its rare animal species, colourful birdlife, and magnificent landscape. Depending on your mood, you can take a hike to the Waterberg plateau in the afternoon, where you’ll be rewarded with a magnificent view of the vast savannah.

Day 3: Northern Namibia

Along your journey northwards you can visit the Hoba meteorite, which is the largest known meteorite in the world, weighing an estimated 60 tons. Your accommodation tonight is located in a very extensive game and nature reserve. The guest farm offers a comfortable stay in a typical Namibian atmosphere, amidst ancient tree-covered dunes. In the afternoon you can relax by the swimming pool and enjoy an aperitif at sunset.

Day 4: Bagani

Into the Caprivi

Today you enter the most densely populated part of Namibia, the Okavango. On the way, you’ll see picturesque round huts inhabited by the local Kavango tribe. With Shametu River Lodge situated directly on the banks of the Okavango, and just a few kilometers from the wildlife-rich Mahango National Park, you have the chance to go on an afternoon game drive to see this interesting park.

Day 5: Kwando River

You cross the Okavango and continue through the Bwabwata National Park to your lodge, which is located south of Kongola on the Kwando River. From the wooden deck of the lodge, you have a direct view of the river. After lunch, you can relax a little before taking a boat trip on the Kwando in the afternoon and getting to experience "pure Africa".

Day 6: Kwando River

Bwabwata National Park

Today you go on a game drive in the Bwabwata National Park where elephant sightings are almost guaranteed as the region around the Kwando River is considered to have the highest concentration of them in southern Africa. The landscape around the Horseshoe is particularly interesting and attracts various animals and water birds. In your free time you can enjoy the typical African atmosphere at the lodge.

Day 7: Chobe River Front Namibia

To the Chobe River

You continue via Katima Mulilo to Kasane in Botswana, where a representative from Zovu Elephant Lodge is waiting to take you on a short boat trip to the lodge, situated on an island in the Chobe River. In the afternoon, you take an unforgettable boat trip where you can marvel at crocodiles, elephants, hippos, and many water birds.

Day 8: Chobe River Front Namibia

Chobe National Park

This morning, a game drive into the Chobe National Park is definitely worth doing as the park is home to around 80,000 elephants, numerous hippos, and thousands of buffalo. The buffalo are usually only seen in the early morning or late afternoon though, when they leave the bush to quench their thirst at the river. In the afternoon, you take another boat trip before ending the evening in comfort.

Day 9: Chobe River Front Namibia

Victoria Falls day trip

A transfer takes you to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, where you can visit the waterfalls and see the huge masses of water cascading over a 110 m wide rock face which is 1708 m wide. The local Kololo people call the waterfall Mosi-oa-Tunya = "thundering smoke", a name that comes from the spray that rises up to 300 m and can still be seen 30 km away (Zimbabwe visa and admission to the waterfalls are not included in the price). We recommend a helicopter flight over the waterfalls (optional) before returning to Kasane.

Drive to Nata

Your journey today takes you south towards the village of Nata, and your camp, located north of the town, on a 16,000-hectare private nature reserve which offers plenty of wildlife all year round. As the name of the camp suggests, elephants are the main attraction, and in the afternoon, you’ll go on a game drive (included in the price) to admire large herds of them, as well as many other animals.

Day 11: Boteti River - Makgadikgadi Pans National Park

Towards Makgadikgadi National Park

Your next stop is on a 7,500-hectare fenced-in private game farm on the edge of the famous Makgadikgadi salt pans. At sunset, you’ll go on a game drive and look out for some of the resident animals, including zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, impalas, kudu, leopards, and sometimes lions and wild dogs. Later that evening you can admire the clear southern sky, and the millions of stars stretching from horizon to horizon without any disturbing light influences.

Day 12: Boteti River - Makgadikgadi Pans National Park

Nxai Pan National Park

Today offers a day trip to the Nxai Pan salt pans, the remains of the once mighty Lake Makgadikgadi, which was at one time the largest inland sea in Africa. With huge, whimsical baobab trees lining your path, look out for herds of wildebeest and zebra on the move, as well as the areas’ lively meerkats up close.

Day 13: Maun

To Maun

You reach the lively town of Maun and experience ‘pure Africa’, where not only people, but also goats, cattle, and donkeys roam the streets. Your lodge is located north of Maun on the Thamalakane River on the way to the Moremi Game Reserve. In the afternoon, you’ll take a boat trip in a mokoro, a type of canoe that is widely used in the Okavango Delta. Locals drive these mokoros using long poles and strong arms to push them along.

Day 14: Khwai Community Area

Continue to the northern edge of the 4,872 km2 Moremi Park, considered one of the most beautiful and diverse nature reserves on the entire continent. The comfortable Sango Safari Camp lies in the shade of large trees and overlooks the Khwai River, where wild animals come to drink water. With the camp offering the perfect base for excursions into the park, and you booked on a "Fully Inclusive" basis (meaning all activities are already included in the price) why not take advantage of the afternoon game drive.

Day 15: Khwai Community Area

Moremi Game Reserve / Okavango Delta

You have another day to take advantage of game drives into the Moremi Game Reserve in the lodge's open safari vehicle. The park, which is home to many wild animals, including all of the "Big 5", is part of the Okavango Delta, the largest inland delta in the world. The Okavango never flows into the sea but instead pours into the Kalahari basin, forming many waterways lined with papyrus and palm trees. There are some places in the park that can only be reached via rickety pile bridges.

Day 16: Maun

To Maun

In the morning you have the chance for another game drive before driving yourself back towards Maun and your lodge on the Thamalakane River. Here you can book a mokoro boat trip or a visit to a cultural village (optional).

Day 17: Kalahari North

Into the Kalahari

Travel via Ghanzi to the Mamuno-Buitepos border post where you leave Botswana and re-enter Namibia. Your destination today is Kalahari Bush Breaks. Built amid untouched and unique nature, the lodge offers lovingly furnished rooms that all have small African details. With the lodge known for its good barbecues around the campfire, you’ll have some time to relive your amazing trip before going to bed.

Day 18: End of Itinerary

Departure

Unfortunately, your safari adventure comes to an end today. Enjoy one more African sunrise before heading back to Windhoek, where you return your rental car and take a transfer to the airport.
