Today’s fascinating journey takes you northwest through the beautiful and ever-changing desert landscapes of Namib Naukluft National park, including the Gaub and Kuiseb canyons. You will reach the coast and the port town of Walvis Bay, where you will have the chance to visit the lagoon famous for its rich variety of birdlife, pelicans, flamingos and other seabirds, before continuing north to Swakopmund. This afternoon you have the chance to explore the shops, the waterfront and the handicraft market before heading to one of the famous restaurants in town for dinner. Dinner tonight is on your account as there are a number of great restaurants to choose from.
The next day, after breakfast, free day at leisure to explore Swakopmund, Walvis Bay and the surrounding areas. You could climb the coastal dunes at Langstrand or Dune 7, explore Swakopmund's shops, cafes, museums and waterfront, or join one of the many adventure activities on offer such as sandboarding, boat cruises, kayaking and scenic flights (all for one cost additional). This morning we recommend that you join a morning catamaran cruise with dolphins and seals or a kayaking excursion in the harbor and lagoon of Walvis Bay, where you will see seals, pelicans and flamingos among other marine life and, with a little luck, you will also see Heaviside and bottlenose dolphins.
Another possibility would be to explore the desert area by participating in the fascinating and informative "Living Desert Tour". This desert tour focuses on exploring the dune belt between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, taking special care not to damage the gravel plains and cause unnecessary damage to the dune ecosystem. Highly recommended, it is also a half or full day excursion to Sandwich Harbor, the most important wetland and feeding area on the west coast of southern Africa for many migratory birds.
After breakfast we leave for the Cape Cross seal colony. Visit the Zeilah ship wreck en route a few kilometers before Henties Bay. The seal reserve is the largest breeding colony of the Cape seal on the entire west coast of southern Africa and is easily accessible because it is located on the coast. After your visit return to Henties Bay and turn inland and through the mining town of Uis you will reach Twyfelfontein Adventure Camp in the late afternoon. Check in, relax and enjoy a sunset drink before dinner.
The next morning visit the engravings at Twyfelfontein, Namibia's first world heritage site, organ pipes and the burnt mountain. Upon your return, visit the Damara Living Museum and learn about the culture and tradition of the Damara people. In the afternoon you have the opportunity to undertake an optional excursion in search of the desert elephants that the lodge offers. This excursion returns to the base after dark in time for dinner.
