Day 1: Johannesburg

On arrival at Johannesburg ORTambo International Airport proceed thru customs/immigration formalities into the arrivals hall and look for a sign with your name.  Your driver from the African Rock Hotel will collect you for transport to the hotel. 

Enjoy your stay in this lovely area of Kempton with its tree lined residential streets.  Dinner is available at the hotels restaurant. 

Day 2: Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)

After breakfast meet your driver for transfer to ORTambo to board your  scheduled aircraft for your flight to Victoria Falls where you will be met for ground transfer to Victoria Falls to The Victoria Falls Hotel.

The Victoria Falls Hotel was built in 1904 when the Cape to Cairo railway reached the Falls. Ever since, guests have been charmed by the old world atmosphere of one of the few remaining hotels of its kind in the world. Set in acres of lush lawns and exotic flora, the hotel is only a few minutes walk from the centre of Victoria Falls Town and a ten minute walk along the hotel's private path from the actual Falls. There's the splendid Livingstone Room for a full English breakfast, fine dining and dancing in the evenings; the Jungle Junction Summerhouse for more casual dining luncheon and dinner; Stanley's Terrace overlooking the famous Victoria Falls Bridge for casual breakfast buffet, snacks, luncheon, high tea, cocktails, and dinner under the stars; and the Bulawayo Room for pre-dinner champagne and after dinner port and cigars.

This evening enjoy dinner at one of several restaurants at the hotel, reservations can be made in advance.

Day 3: Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)

Balance of the day is free to take advantage of optional activities including Guided tours of the falls, White Water Rafting, Dinner Trains, Bungi Jumping, and much more.  

Days 4 - 5: Chobe River Front Namibia

Return to the hotel and check out.  Depart with your driver to Kasane where you will meet your safari guide from Chobe Savanna Lodge and transfer with game drive to the lodge.  fThere is time after getting situated in your room for a late afternoon game activity before returning to the lodge for dinner/overnight. 

Situated on a peninsula on the northern bank Chobe River in the East Caprivi Strip along the Namibian banks of the Chobe River, Namibia, at the northern extremity of the Chobe National Park.  The lodge overlooks the vast floodplains of the Chobe National Park’s Puku Flats and is located approximately 90 kilometres due west of Victoria Falls. Access is by boat transfer from Botswana and it is also seasonally accessible by 4x4 vehicles from the Namibian side.

The charm of Chobe Savanna Lodge, with its sweeping views and wide vistas, lies in its beauty, tranquility and peaceful atmosphere, far from the crowds of large cruise boats and game drive vehicles. The emphasis here is on complete relaxation and solace. Unlike other properties, wherein regimented game activities are prioritized, Chobe Savanna Lodge offers guests the choice of just taking 'time out' or joining in on one of the many safari activities offered at the lodge.  Depending upon the time of year, guests are also able to take a canoe excursion along the river, guided walking safaris along the river by professional guides and boat excursions to a nearby traditional village, where one can witness tribal African life.

As this is a water-based lodge,over the next two days guests have a choice of aquatic activities. River excursions in small boats are ideal for close encounters with the wild visitors to the river’s edge.The lodge overlooks the vast floodplains of the Chobe National Park’s Puku Flats. The Chobe River is home to large herds of Elephant, Buffalo and Hippo, as well as dense concentrations of other wildlife – including the rare Puku antelope – which come down to the river’s edge to drink and graze.  Fishing is also a popular pastime; our catch-and-release fishing trips for Bream or Tiger Fish are a firm favourite with guests of all ages. Additionally, those wishing to experience some of the local Namibian traditions will enjoy a cultural village visit to one of the surrounding communities, where one can observe the ancient heritage of the local people. 

Days 6 - 7: Okavango Delta

Enjoy a morning activity and breakfast then transfer to Kasane by boat to meet your lite aircraft flight to Shinde. 

Nestled on a lush palm island in the heart of the northern Okavango Delta, Shinde is an iconic camp, one of the first in Botswana and loved by many. The new Shinde is built in a way that pays homage to its former self. Located on the edge of the Shinde Lagoon, the area simply teems with animal and birdlife.

Each tent comprises of a large bedroom, en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower. There is the choice of either a double or twin bed configuration on comfortable three-quarter, extra length or king-sized beds. Every possible comfort has been catered for – from full solar electricity, standing and ceiling fans through to yoga mats and hair dryers! 

Over the next two days take advantage of both water and land activities  offered year-round. Motorboats or Mokoro provide a chance to experience the incredible bird, plant and reptile species found in the aquatic habitat of the Okavango Delta. Game drives are conducted by a personal guide in comfortable, specially designed game drive vehicles. When out on game drives our window seat guarantee ensures no more than four guests per vehicle and individual use of a camera mount. For the more adventurous, guided walks are also available while fishing enthusiasts will enjoy fishing for a variety of species such as tilapia and tigerfish.

Shinde is situated on a private concession which allows guided walks, Mokoro excursions and night drives in addition to game drives and motorboat trips. Shinde’s excellent location in the Okavango Delta ensures a combination of permanent water access for year-round water activities and large dry areas for game drive routes. This blend of environments provides the habitat for a consistently wide variety of wildlife, including the elusive sitatunga antelope and a healthy population of leopards.

Days 8 - 9: Okavango Delta

Depart by lite aircraft across the blue-green waters of the Delta to Kanana Camp.  

A hidden jewel on the Xudum River, Kanana is located in the southwest of the Okavango Delta. The area encompasses a necklace of islands dotted with palms, figs, ebony and knobthorn, and is home to a myriad of birds, plants and animals. The nature of the habitat means it is the perfect place to experience the diversity of species found within the Okavango Delta.

The tents are well spaced, affording privacy whilst remaining within comfortable distance from the main camp area. The annual floods transform parts of this concession into a true water paradise, offering guests the best of both worlds. At certain times of the year guests may actually enjoy the breathtaking spectacle of the water visibly rising around the camp’s raised teak decks. Guests can also experience magnificent game sightings during drives as well as the unique experience of exploring the delta’s beautiful waterways by boat. Plus, there is a Sleep Out Deck that offers guests the opportunity to spend the night under the splendid African night sky.

Over the next two days the focus of activities at Kanana varies with the rising and falling levels of the Okavango Delta. Activities include morning and late afternoon game drives in open safari vehicles, with afternoon game drives often continuing into the evening. Alternatively you may explore the crystal clear waterways by Mokoro or motorboat, and enjoy the magnificent variety of birds, plant and reptile species found in the area. Birding is spectacular, and Kanana hosts a seasonal heronry that teems with activity, a Kanana highlight which converts all visitors to avid ‘twitchers’. Guided bush walks are highly recommended as is fishing for tilapia, African pike and sharptooth catfish.

Day 10: Cape Town

Depart from Kanana Situated in Gardens, an old and established suburb of Cape Town at the foot of Table Mountain, Welgelegen comprises two beautiful turn of the century houses, lovingly renovated and decorated to reflect the uncompromising commitment to style. 

The name Welgelegen means “well located” in Dutch and as its name suggests is perfectly situated at the heart of Cape Town’s City Bowl.  On nearby Kloof streets, two minutes away you will find many of Cape Town’s finest restaurants and pubs, plenty to occupy your evenings.  Also within easy walking distance is the Company Gardens, National Museum & Art Gallery, Parliament Buildings and Greenmarket Square at the city centre.

  There is time this afternoon to make your way to explore the V&A Waterfront for shopping, entertainment and dining. 

 

Day 11: Cape Town

   

Following breakfast this morning you will be collected for a full day Private tour of the Cape’s wine regions which are arguably some of the most scenic in the world, set around the historic towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, surrounded by vine-covered hills and towering sandstone mountains. A mere forty-five minute drive from the city, almost two hundred wineries produce a range of red and white wine styles to suit all palates.

The university town of Stellenbosch is a great place to start. Known locally as Eikestad (translated as Oak City, after the multitude of eponymous trees) , the town boasts some of the finest and well-preserved examples of Cape-Dutch architecture in the country. Browse some of the many quaint shops and galleries, or watch the passing parade from the veranda of a vibrant coffee shop.

Wine estates visited will vary according to your preferences, with the stand-out varietals including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, and the unique local red, Pinotage. There are also many excellent Cap Classique sparkling wines to sample – our local version of Champagne. Fine cheeses, charcuterie and olive oils are also produced here, with many estates offering tastings to pair with wine.

Regarded as a foodie capital, the region is home to some of the most highly rated restaurants in South Africa. After lunch, and a final wine tasting, a stroll through Franschhoek is a must for any serious shopaholic or souvenir-hunter. For chocolate lovers, a visit to a boutique chocolaterie to sample delicious, hand-crafted confectionary should be high on your list of things to do in this historic town.

Return to the hotel this afternoon, dinner on own - reservations can be made at any of the local restaurants. 

Day 12: End of Itinerary

Your last day in Cape Town and there should be time depending on the time of  international flight departure to visit Table Mountain and take the Rotair Cable Car to the roof with its exceptional views of the Coast.  This can easily be explored on your own or private guided arrangements can be made. 

Return to the hotel for check-out then meet your driver/guide for transfer to the airport and say farewell to the adventure.
