Day notes
Upon arrival in Kenya, after passing through immigration and collecting your bags, proceed outside where there will be numerous people waiting to collect arriving guests. Our ground handlers in Kenya are Asilia, and they have a representative there who will be holding a sign with your name/s on it - and they will coordinate your transfer to the hotel.
Tamarind is a fun place, good food and bar, get a good nights rest before the adventure begins.

Expert tips:
Tipping your Safari Guide & other Service Providers in Africa
Tipping your guide/s or staff is usually considered customary in Africa but is always at your discretion, and only if you are totally satisfied. It is a delicate and sensitive issue and many people look for tipping guidelines.
Generally you would only tip at the end of your stay, on departure or final game drive. If you have an envelope, you can place the tip in that and give it to the relevant person/s.
We have quoted USD below, simply because it is a universal currency however all major currencies (Euro, GBP, USD) are accepted as well as local currency like Rands in SA or Namibian Dollars in Namibia. There is no need to exchange to local currency if you have foreign currencies.
Here's what we suggest as a minimum:
- Transfer drivers: USD 2 - 5 per transfer
- Lodge guides or city guides on full day trips: USD 15 per traveller per day
- Trackers: USD 5 per traveller per day
Lodge staff: the easiest way to tip the lodge's cooks, housekeepers and porters is to use the staff tipping box - the contents of which are shared - at the end of your stay. Work on USD 15 per traveller per day. If there is someone who has really stood out and provided excellent service, you may want to tip him or her separately - simply put your tip in an envelope with the person's name on it or pass it on via the camp manager.
It is worth considering your tips at home and preparing to have enough smaller denominations of whatever currency you plan to use – change and smaller notes are unlikely to be available in remote parts of Africa.
Included:
Breakfast, bottled water, use of the whole gym, Wi-Fi, statutory taxes
Excluded:
Lunch and dinner, beverages, transfers, activities, gratuities, extras
Day notes
Today a driver from Asilia will again meet you - they will confirm time the day before but for a 10.00 departure, expect to leave around 08.00 or 08.15 - so you need to have breakfast and check out by 08.00.
Your flight takes you to the Mara however you may pick up and drop off guests at other airstrips on the way. LUGGAGE RESTRICTION: Your maximum luggage weight for checked AND hand luggage combined is 15kg / 33lb. Only soft-sided or duffel bags are allowed. Luggage with wheels, stiff handles, and internal metal frames take up too much space and weight and will not be loaded.
Once you get to the airstrip you will meet your lodge guide or a lodge manager who will transfer you back to camp to settle in and have lunch, if the lodge is busy you may have to wait for your rooms to be prepared.
You will meet at tea time [very colonial] and head out this afternoon on you first game drive.
Typically on safari you will be woken up early, have a light breakfast with hot drinks, fruit, toast and snacks before heading out at first light. Depending on what you are seeing and conditions, you could spend between 3 – 4 hours before returning to camp for breakfast or brunch. Siesta through the middle of the day and then you may have lunch or a high-tea [each camp operates its own schedule], and then head out again in the afternoon between 3pm and 4pm. Afternoon game drives sometimes go on after dark, depending on park rules, so it is considered a night drive if you do go into the dark where you may view nocturnal creatures or even follow big cats on the hunt. [National Parks have gate times while private concessions do not] Return to camp around 7pm for dinner before heading back to your room for the night.

Expert tips:
Naboisho is a Maasai community owned conservancy, it is surrounded in the distance by villages and they do use certain areas to graze their cattle, so you will see herdsmen and cattle here and there - but don't worry this is normal in much of East Africa, the game viewing is still phenomenal.
Included:
All meals, conservancy bednight fee, all house drinks (except champagne), game drives, night drives, transfers to/from nearest airstrip and to/from Encounter Mara, limited laundry service.
Excluded:
Cultural visits (US$ 30 per person), balloon safaris.
Day notes
15 June: Today you will be transferred to Ol Kiombo airstrip in time to depart with Mombasa Air to Amboseli. This is a fair distance away so will involve a longer transfer but through the Mara so its essentially a game drive. Lodge transfer and departure times will be given to you the night before. Upon arrival in Amboseli you will be met by a lodge representative if not your guide, who will take you back to camp.
Your day to day schedule will be much the same as before but here your focus is on elephants, the famous big tuskers of Amboseli that have been studied for decades.
If you are to visit a Maasai Village, I would say this is a good area to do it, try and coordinate that outside of game drive times.

Expert tips:
Ol Pejeta Conservancy offers a number of additional activities, I do recommend the anti-poaching dog unit, if you haven't seen a tracking display before it is fascinating and also seeing the last two northern white rhino - to understand the conservation efforts to keep the genes alive. These are additional payment items and need to be arranged through the lodge or through us in advance - each of these activities are $70 pp and those funds are funneled into conservation and the conservancy, money well spent.
Included:
All meals, local beverages, airstrip transfers to and from Kamok airstrip - Ol Pejeta shared game- viewing drives, night drives, escorted bush walks (to be booked in advance, based on ranger's availability), canoeing and mountain biking, Community Trust contribution, picnics, laundry.
Day notes
Today you will fly back to Nairoibi around 11.00 and get in around 13.00, we have booked the driver/guide and vehicle who will be available until you need to be at the airport at 21.00 latest.
