Day 1: Ambergris Caye

Upon arrival into Belize City, you will clear immigrations, claim  your bags and go through customs. From there you will proceed to the domestic terminal to check your bags in on the Tropic Air flight to San Pedro Town on the island of Ambergris Caye, a 20 minute, up and down flight. Our office will have provided you with vouchers for this flight a few weeks prior to travel.

When you arrive into San PedroTown, just announce to the taxi drivers outside that you are headed to Banyan Bay and one will provide the 10 minute drive to the resort. The reception desk will pay the taxi fare. The remainder of this day is at leisure.

For this program, we leave evening meals open ended as there are lots of very good restaurants on Ambergris and we want to encourage folks to get out and give a few a try. You can use the loaner bikes or rent a golf cart to get into and around town. Actually a short walk down the beach from Banyan Bay will get you in the middle of town.

If you do not feel like venturing out, Pier 366 at Banyan Bay is also a great place to eat.

Expert tips

The Tropic Air flights operate in a state of organized chaos. Do not be concerned if you do not depart exactly on time as there are numerous flights per house back and to to San Pedro. And do not be concerned if your luggage does come on the same flight that you arrived, additional flights will arrive within a few minutes along with your luggage.

Tropic Air operates 12-passenger Caravans and as stated before, numerous flights per hour. The airport in San Pedro Town its crammed on a busy street corner so watch for cars and golf carts and also your luggage that can be taken by mistake.

Days 2 - 4: Ambergris Caye

These will be three full fishing days starting with a full daily breakfast at Pier 366, the restaurant at the resort, around 7:00 AM. After you eat, just head down to the dock where your local captain will be waiting. Depending on the type of fishing you have requested, flats fishing or reef fishing, you will either fish aboard a panga style flats boat, or a broader beamed reef boat and will have the appropriate tackle on board. We normally head out to fish a bit before 8am and will have you back at the dock about 3:30 pm.  The captain will have a cooler with ice on board, but you will need to stock it with whatever drinks you prefer. We suggest going to one of the grocery stores on the island and just stocking up the fridge in your room and then each morning bring along what you feel you will want to drink. The resort will prepre a simple box lunch for you daily, so just grab that on your way to the dock each morning.

Your fishing has been booked with one of the hand chosen local guides in  San Pedro. The first day of fishing, your guide will meet you at the dock at 8:00 AM (or before). This first day you will spend fishing and getting to know each other. There are several flats to the north, and just south of Banyan Bay. These flats hold nice pods of bones in the 2-5 pound range. Occasionally you will see some stray permit in the 5-10 pound class. Tarpon is best in the spring months of April-June and some are located in the channels that chris-cross the flats as well as the nearby island of Savannah Caye or 45 minutes away on the mainland. There is also the Barrier Reef just a mile or so from the hotel and it is loaded with all sorts of reef fish like snappers, grouper and the like. Your guide will keep you informed as to the best fishing during your visit. Winds can be a problem at times for fishing, but real nice for comfort. You may be able to fish the leeward side depending on the tides. Don’t be surprised if your guide suggests fishing with live bait, as this works pretty good in Belize. The boats are panga style and about 20 feet in length and open. There are two nice beach chairs inside that are very comfortable and great on your back. There is a casting deck on the bow and plenty of room to roam. Motors are 55 horse with plenty of power to get you around. Each boat will have a cooler on board with ice, but it will be up to you to make sure you get it supplied with your favorite beverages. The bar has plenty of beverages on hand and you can sign for them on your bill.

Day 5: End of Itinerary

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport in San Pedro Town for your Tropic Air flight to Belize City where you will just proceed to the counter for your international departure.
