Split is one of the most visited destinations in Croatia. One of the first inhabitants of Split was the Roman emperor Diocletian who started to build his palace in this friendly bay around 293 AD. After his abdication, he withdrew to this luxurious palace of about 30 thousand square meters. The following turbulent centuries made the palace into a town, first populated by the citizens from nearby Salona.
The ruins of Diocletian's Palace, built between the late 3rd and the early 4th centuries A.D., can be found throughout the city. The importance of Diocletian's Palace far transcends local significance because of its level of preservation and the buildings of succeeding historical periods, starting in the Roman period, which form the very essence of old Split. The palace is one of the most famous and integral architectural and cultural buildings on the Croatian Adriatic coast.

SPLIT WITH OLIVE OIL TASTING
This sightseeing tour highlights the most amazing ancient features of Split, and offers a relaxing stroll through history. You will see famous sights like Diocletian’s Palace, Underground halls, the Cathedral, Vestibul, and Peristil.
Then, discover one of the most famous Croatian products during an olive oil tasting at an olive oil bar. The extra virgin olive oil here is known as the island’s green gold, and it's famed for its subtle flavor and distinct piquant taste. Ancient Greeks sailed to the island of Hvar some 2400 years ago and planted vines and olive trees. This is when the cultivation of olive trees and grapes spread across Dalmatia and greatly influenced the local cuisine.
